Night Owls – Notthedane56

night-owl

Night owls
late, never going to bed
sleepers
denying themselves
the ability
to dream

I never understood,
what keeps them up
while I am hitting the hay
lost in my eyes, my closed sign
hanging on the door,
no lights turned on,
no TV to watch,

Night owls
who whoing at the moon
eclipsing the stars
in their eyes,
seeing things that others
like those fast asleep
will never see,
will never see,

When they finally do
sleep
their watchful eyes
closing just one half
waking suddenly
when a mouse runs on by

Looking up
my mouse eyes espied
a bird of the night
seeing me better

Than, I see myself….
