Cyranny’s quickie!

Are you more of a saver or a spender?

I am not the first blogger to start a ”Question of the day” series. I used to participate to Danny’s Let me ask you a question posts regularly, but since he has almost stopped pubishing them, I thought I’d give it a go. We’ll see if I stick to it, depending on the answers I get!

  1. I only earn a little! So a lot of what I earn is gobbled up on paying my rent. The little I have left, I am careful with. So gradually I save a fraction of my earnings each month. I have done very well recently and am now able to afford my trip to Australia.

I don’t do debt. Wouldn’t touch loans, credit, mortgages with a barge pole – I have very little confidence in the economic system. Debt is like a ball and chain. I don’t want to be a slave to a job I don’t like. I want to be able to pack my suitcase and move whenever I need to.

I didn’t receive any wages at all when I was a full-time international volunteer so I am used to not having very little. Life is much happier with less.

  2. I think I’ve been in the middle of these two. While I like to spend modestly most times, I throw caution to the wind and lavish some niceties on me, other times. I do this when I go on vacations. In other words, there are areas I indulge myself greatly and put a huge hole in my pockets, yet, I wouldn’t cry for splurging on trips that make me richer in knowledge and experience. But as Miriam stated above, I like balance too. 🙂

  3. Oh lordie. I’m a SPENDER and given that I’m on disability (a fixed amount) and don’t have any extra to spend, that’s a big problem. But it’s always been that way too…I’ve never been very good at saving nor planning in regard to financial matters.

  4. I used to be a spender.  As my daughter and I went to the mall, I said, remember when we liked something we probably bought it?  She laughed.  We didn’t realize how lucky we were.  I still am lucky to have income since my husband and I both put into SS.  But there’s no saving, not possible.

    1. I am glad you had the chance to enjoy spending a little, even if you have to be more reasonable now… I struggled so much with money in the past, that being wealthy for me now, is going to the grocery store, and not worrying about the prices 😉

    1. Thank you for participating, Denise 🙂 It is not an easy to learn how to save… Personally, I started putting a ridiculous amount of money in an account every month. At first, it seems useless, but over time, you realize that it adds up quicker than you thought 🙂
