Kind Hearted Challenge – August Edition

20190713_000439

Happy first day of August, Lovelies!

As you might know, I have been waiting for a while to post this, and I am quite excited to finally launch this new, monthly Kind Hearted Challenge!

What is the Kind Hearted Challenge about?

It is really simple… First of all, it is not a challenge per se, but more an invitation to take a moment and think about doing kind things around you. You don’t have to participate every month, and if you join in, you have all month to complete your mission.

I think that spreading the word out is the best way to get at least a couple of people to think “You know what? That’s really easy, I think I’ll give it a try!” There are so many free, easy acts of kindness that we can do in our everyday life… Things to make other people around us happier. Things that can be a day-shifter without us even knowing… This challenge is just a dare to you all, to make a positive difference, even with the littlest things!

So each first day of the month, I’ll post your new mission. (should you accept it!) I promise they will be free (or very, very cheap!), easy to do and not too time consuming. You can do it just once, or several times…

Why a Kind Hearted Challenge?

Because we never know who needs a little extra kindness in their life. And if we can’t change the world as individuals, we can help make it a little better in our close surounding.

It doesn’t take much to make someone’s day better, and I’d like to create a circle of people who make the effort of spreading a little extra kindness around them. I’d really love to prove that it is possible to make a difference, as small as it might be!

And you know what? I believe in Karma, or something like that… What goes around, comes around, and I am convinced that we’ll all benefit from being kinder. It can only be rewarding in the end!

How can I play along?

Easy, you read the challenge below. You put a smile on someone’s face by doing it, and then, you’re done!

You can keep it to yourself, write a post about it and link it to this page, or you can leave a comment to tell us about your completed challenge!

And if you really really like the Kind Hearted Challenge, you can share this post on your own blog, to hopefully bring more and more people to perform free acts of kindness all around the world!

Oh, and if you have an idea, for a future challenge, please contact me via my contact page! I’d love to feature your challenge, if it meets the only two condition of being easy to achieve, and being cheap enough for anyone to join in!

And now… The most important thing! (drum roll!!) Your August Kind Hearted Challenge is the following:

Sometime this month, find the mailing adress of someone you haven’t been in touch with for a long time. (preferably many years) Write a short letter to that person, and mail it, to show them that someone is thinking about them!

I’d like to thank Candace, who inspired me this challenge in part, with the lovely cards she sent me, a while back. The image above is a detail of one of them, and makes me smile every time I look at it. If you don’t know Candace, you can visit her blog, Revenge of Eve.

    1. Yay!! I totally agree… We might start as a handful of people, but if we have fun doing it, and talk about it around us, we could soon put a smile on many many people’s faces!! Thank you for playing along 🙂

  1. You are so kind as to continue to mention me, Cyranny. It was your kindness that prompted me to send you the mail in the first place!! You are such a positive and integral part of this blogging community and inspire so many. Thank you for spreading your love so freely!!

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words, Candace! It was a given for me, that I’d mention you, since the picture I am using for the challenge reminds me of you 🙂 And I hope that by the end of the month, many people will have a little card, or letter, that will have the same magical smile-inducing effect 🙂 *Fingers crossed* xx

    1. This makes me smile, big time, Beckie!! I can’t wait to hear about all the people who’ll get a little bit of sunshine in an envelope, instead of a bill!! The person I chose to write to (at least the first) hasn’t heard of me in about 30 years… I hope he remembers me 😛

      1. It’s sort of strange, but I reached out to a friend I had known back in the mid-’80’s this past Monday. We’ve been emailing back and forth every day.
An awful lot has come out of these conversations, things I never realized before. It’s been a real learning experience and truly enlightening.
I hope your reaching and writing to this person is as enlightening as well. Good luck! Spread that kindness like confetti!!! 🤗

    1. Nowadays, all we get in our mailbox are bills and adds… I think that getting unexpected kind words can make a difference in someone’s life 🙂 And it is so easy and quick to send an email or text message, that a hand written note says ”I really care”, at least to me!

I hope you’ll join in!! xx

    1. Thank you, Sonofa 🙂 Aside from a couple of grumpy Grinches, I think that everyone enjoys and deserves a little unsolicited kindness! And we can’t just wait for it to happen 😉

  3. What a fabulous idea, because as bloggers, that’s our mission anyway, right? Help others, show kindness, etc.?! I already have an idea thanks to you! Thanks for sharing and I’ll Reblog on my site too!

    1. Thank you, Kim 🙂 I agree that a lot of us bloggers enjoy helping and sharing, and that’s what makes this community so great! If we motivate ourselves and gang up, we can make a difference with a very little gesture! I’m very happy to count you in, and thank you for the reblog! xx

The days of snail mail and letter writing are few and far between. So often the only time we contact distant friends and family is at Christmas, and sometimes even that is one sided.
Value for money, the price of a stamp isn’t that bad. Think of the distance a standard letter has to travel from your house to someone else’s for 70p first class and 61p second.
IMO it’s more personal to ‘drop a line’ compared to a text or email message. as to receive something in the mail box that is not a bill or circular is enough to put a smile on someone’s face.

  5. I used to write a lot of letters, not so much now. I miss writing to my Mum even though I knew she wouldn’t reply. I have a few senior friends who write periodically. It’s always nice to hear from someone via the mail.

    1. I used to write a lot of letters too! To friends and family members… Now that I can send short emails that get to people right away, I don’t bother to send real mail anymore. That’s a shame. I’ll try to take the time to write several ones this month. Who knows, I might keep on going, even when September comes 😉

  6. great idea; I did this once, and the person I wrote the letter to was so surprised to hear from me that he thought there was something wrong with me, that perhaps I was dying! 🙂

Maybe this challenge will get me to do this again, but make sure I let the person I’m writing to know that I am doing ok.

    1. Oh my, Jim, I am so great you shared this! I think we should all make sure to say that we are fine! I hadn’t thought about that reaction, but it is very natural 🙂 And since the person I am going to write to hasn’t heard from me in 30 years, I’ll be particularly cautious about scaring him out 😛 Thanks again! xx

      1. I sure hope so… I’ll post about the story behind my letter to him… He was a very special person in my life, and I think he deserves to know that, even after that much time 😛 Welcome to the Cove, Jim! I hope you’ll enjoy your time here 🙂

I have attempted to reblog this post for the majority of the day!! After many failed attempts, I finally was successful using my laptop!! Sheesh. Check this act of kindness out. It truly is contagious. I am honored to have inspired such a positive display of kind-heartedness. Do participate, please!!

  8. I like the way you think! I’ve been bemoaning the lack of humanity in the world for a long time, and I try to do small acts of kindness, but I really like your idea here of getting people involved! Write one letter over the course of a month? Yeah, I can do that. Thank you for this … I hope to see this idea take off like wildfire! I will be re-blogging this later today to see if it will inspire some of my readers. Thanks again!

We all know how, of late, kindness, respect, compassion, and the like seem to have gone by the wayside, right. Last night, a blogging friend shared a blog titled “Cyranny’s Cove”, and specifically the post I am about to share. I love the concept … one act of kindness a month. That isn’t too hard, is it? What if everybody in the world followed this … tried hard to bring ‘kindness’ back into our society? Anyway, take a look if you will, and let’s help Cyranny spread the word, okay?

  11. Cyranny, I am here courtesy of our friend Jill’s reblog. Well done. A mantra of mine is “don’t mistake kindness for weakness.” My premise is you can civilly disagree with someone without name calling. The key is to listen and push back in the manner you would want to hear pushback – that golden rule thing works.

I mention this as we cannot ignore the words and actions that hurt and denigrate the disenfranchised or our environment. Choosing to say nothing or avoiding the subject are options and may be necessary given the circumstances. But, sometimes a nicely worded push back can help advocate. A colleague would say “help me understand…”

Kindness is key. Civility is key. But, the best message is to demonstate the action we want to see. Well done. Thanks for the challenge. Keith

    1. Exactly! Kindness is key and a choice of behaviour that requires more strength than rudeness or retaliation. And I expect it of myself; consideration if another person deserves it or not should not be a thought.
