Time to rest a little.

Not quite 24h ago, I have asked for your good thoughts, after getting a middle-of-the-night call from Mom. And your good words and prayers filled the comment box, with their very comforting effect.

This morning, I left a short update before packing a bag and hopping in my little brother’s car to ride to our parents’ hometown.

I spent all day at the hospital. Dad suffered a bad stroke just after going to bed Thursday night. He will have to go through carotid surgery. Soon. It just hasn’t been decided if it will be a stat surgery (like, possibly be scheduled as soon as tomorrow!), or if the doctors will let his brain heal a little (approximately 6 weeks) before performing the surgery.

Both are scary options. But there is no 3rd choice.

I have barely slept, for the last 36 hours or so. I have worked hard putting all my energy trying to support Mom who is devestated, and Dad who needs us to be positive and not to see in our eyes that he is scrap. Because he is not, even if seeing him this handicaped is very difficult.

I wanted to thank you all again! I haven’t had time to come answer your precious little notes, but I have read you all, and it felt good to get your kind comfort.

I am heading to bed now. Hopefully, tomorrow will be more about good news, and less about question marks.

  1. Of course he’s not scrapped! He needs to get into rehab as soon as possible though. And he’s gonna need to bust his ass…even when he doesn’t feel like it. I tell my patients daily to not give up. Do the same for him. Still sending those good thoughts to you all. 😊

I hope you still have my cellphone number. Do call if you need to talk; I am just a phone call or text message away. If you don’t have it, email me so I can send it to you.

Also, please wrap your arms around your mom for me and let her know that it is a warm and comforting hug from me. I will never forget her kindness and love shown to me after Dylan died.
