Cyranny’s quickie!

What is one thing people think about your home country, that is a total misconception?

I am not the first blogger to start a ”Question of the day” series. I used to participate to Danny’s Let me ask you a question posts regularly, but since he has almost stopped pubishing them, I thought I’d give it a go. We’ll see if I stick to it, depending on the answers I get!

  1. People love the traffic jams when they’re visiting India for the first time. Trust me, they have seen only the tip of the iceberg 😂😂 Traffic jams can last longer than 6 hours here and it’s horrible to be stuck in one.. standing still at one place/moving slower than a tortise for that long 😏😣

  2. that the US is a “democracy”. It is not not and never has been one. It IS a Democratic Republic. People are such morons when it comes to US History.

  3. That we drink tea, no we don’t.

And no, I don’t know your best friends’ cousins boyfriend’s sister husbands third cousin twice removed that lives here.

Oh and Scotland is not part of England, nor is Wales and nor is Northern Ireland and Ireland has sod all to do with us, other than being joined to Northern Ireland. Its a bit like thinking the USA are in charge of Canada

  4. Old post but I want to say I agree with two of the posters above about this “great” land. But, I don’t know who would actually be thinking of it nowadays considering…

  5. I know this is an older “quickie” but it intrigued me. The other Americans who have commented all said fairly negative things about the good ol’ USA. I mostly agree with their comments too, but with this disclaimer. America still is the land of the free and opportunity abounds depending on how you define those concepts. To someone who has lived where fear rules and there is little freedom, I’d bet America is free as free can get to that person. Opportunity is what the individual makes of it too. Some people can find opportunities all over the joint here. Is it the same as it WAS, once? Nope. Because things change. Society has changed.

My own choice about the misconception that probably abounds about America. We’re not half as violent nor lawless as we are portrayed. There are loads of places where you can live your entire life and not be shot at, nor even ever see a gun or violence of any sort.

Just like everywhere else in the world, there are a lot of layers to America …. just like that proverbial onion everyone keeps talking about.
