Evening in Odense…

« Do you mind preparing your sandwich yourself today? I have too much trouble breathing» he said sitting on the couch.

No I don’t mind. I do mind though that making a tuna sandwich is too much of an effort, and that obviously, though I insisted, he will not go to the clinic just yet. If he doesn’t do it for his own sake, it seems I am not important enough to have him go for me, and my worried sleepless nights either.

So I packed my self made sandwich, my veggie juice and my cheese with a little extra worriedness for dessert, and I left home. I can’t even say that the walking helped me ventilate, since I live a corner away from my office.

I sat at my desk, opened my countless applications (each using a different password. Each password using letters and digits, and special punctuation, and not using easily-remembered words or dates or so… of course!) and prepared for an evening of overtime.

Once all set, I decided to go for a walk in Odense… Lucas told me several times how much he liked the city, so I thought I’d give it a try. After my walk in Svendborg, it might sound crazy to do it again, but I guess I am just a bit masochist…

I started my visit downtown. On streetview, it is still summer time in Odense, and it is a nice sunny day… I had to be careful with all the pedestrians and the bicycle traffic. I liked the paved streets, but the overall impression I had walking around wasn’t as strong as in Svendborg. Maybe because it reminded me a little of Québec City, which makes is a little less exotic… But I kept walking, stopping in front of James Dean Dance bar. I continued a little and found out that the Spoken Word Festival was on, explaining all the people I kept bumping into in the gågade (pedestrian street). I googled the festival, but I was a little disappointed. I didn’t really find the mission it carried, but it seemed to have something to do with a local film festival.

I stopped again, in front of a store wearing an “Apotek” front sign. I didn’t even check the meaning but I have a feeling it is a pharmacy. Then again, if I had to guess everything in Danish, I would never have found a cinema (a cinema theater in Danish being called “en biograf”)

I was surprised to come across a few 7-Eleven convenience stores… The splashes of American influence seemed a little odd, but then again, Odense is a larger city than Svendborg, so it is just normal to see a little US here and there… I guess.

I changed windows, but I didn’t close streetview. I just have to get back to reality from time to time, to do my job. That’s what I am here for, isn’t it? I peek, every now and then, to keep my mind off the rest… The worries, the exhaustion… That little green dot that won’t light up on the screen, giving me the impression I broke something again.

I’ll probably get to my silly stuff back pretty soon, but for tonight, I think I’ll stay in Odense a while… I’ll try to find a good restaurant, blend in with the locals, and just listen. I’ll try my best to keep attention off me, and just pretend this is where I belong for tonight…
