If there’s one food item that is known worldwide, it has got to be the Big Mac.
Thanks to McDonald’s presence in something in between 100 and 150 countries (The Internets aren’t too precise, and I don’t feel like calling Ronald to ask him the exact number) around the world, most of us probably tasted the iconic burger at least once.
If you have, indeed, you’ve probably noticed that once you’re done eating your burger, there’s always bits and pieces of it that have fallen in the little cardboard container…
Well a lady on TikTok posted the recipe for a salad that supposedly tastes like a whole bowl of these delicious little leftovers.
That seemed like a fun recipe to try, and soooo easy too. I had to give it a go.
Here’s how it goes…
In a bowl, mix the following:
- A half cup of mayonnaise
- 2 table spoons of French salad dressing
- 4 tea spoons of sweet relish
- 1 tea spoon of white vinegar
- 1 table spoon of minced onion
- 1 tea spoon of salt
- 1 tea spoon of sugar
Cook one pound of ground beef, and season it with salt and pepper to your liking.
In a large bowl, toss the following:
- Half a head of Iceberg lettuce, cut in fine slices.
- 1 cup of grated orange cheddar.
- Half a cup of chopped onion.
- Half a cup of diced dill pickles.
- The baked ground beef
- The sauce
Mix everything up, and once plated, top with some sesame seeds.
Seriously, I tried it thinking I would most probably get disappointed. I wanted it to remind me, even so slightly of a (bun-less) bite from a Big Mac.
Verdict? It works!
It is not sexy in the plate… I’ll give you that. But as a true North American, who still remembers how my family rushed to the closest McDonald’s when we were back in Canada (we lived in Guinea, where they didn’t have any Golden Arch restaurant back then), because biting into a Big Mac was the first step to feeling back home…
It works. And it is a salad. All the pleasure, no guilty feeling. Win-win.
Let me know if you try it.
