If you could have any themed-funerals planned, what would you choose?

  1. I have never heard of a themed-funeral, so I’ve never even thought of anything like it. But I guess “Weekend at Bernie’s”. Everyone I love can go out and have themselves a blast after so long under lock and key, and if anyone wants to give em guff for wearing their masks, they can hoist me up and say “say hi to Marla. She got covid when we started tonight” and continue on their way. 😂

  2. I have been to a lot of funerals, and the ones that I genuinely went away from feeling most at peace were fairly simple. They spoke about the person who had died, sharing happy and heartwarming memories. They also shared the beliefs of the deceased about what happens when you die. They were very comforting and a chance to talk afterwards with other friends and family in a very warm way.

There is one particular funeral which I will never forget. When I was around 27, my best friend died of cancer. She was such a lovely person, who was loved by everyone who knew her. Some of those who were asked to conduct her funeral service were so choked up by her death, they said they didn’t think they could do it without breaking down. So, a friend she had made through her volunteering travelled up from London to Liverpool and his service was really outstanding. Everyone was gripped by his logical, simple, clear explanation of why we die, our hope for the future. Even today, years later, I can remember his words and all the scriptures he used and the same spark in my heart I felt that day lingers. We have all been talking about that funeral for years. We went away with our hearts brimming over.
