Pillow talk… (June 25th FFF)

I was invited (well, not personally, but still…) to join the Fandango’s Friday Flashback!

Fandango scrolls back, every Friday, and gives a second chance to a post he had published on the same date, years before. I thought it was a great way to remember some of the stuff I did a while back, and I decided to participate…

So here it is!

Written in 2019, here’s a little piece of fiction. I hope you’ll like it (again). And I wish you safe and well, wherever you are..

She couldn’t figure if she was more shocked by the confidence, or the tone of his voice when he whispered it, his head resting in the hollow of her bare shoulder.

Say that again?

This time, she looked at him to make sure she could read the words on his lips, as he spoke them.

I was a sniper, in Yugoslavia… he paused briefly. That’s how I made my money.

The minute before, she was ready to kiss him goodnight, but now her thoughts were spinning again, and she knew she couldn’t go to sleep either. How could this “Night night, sleep tight!” turn into “Hey! You’ve just had sex with a sniper, girl!” so suddenly? No wonder he had trouble sleeping…

She didn’t know how to react. She sure couldn’t blame him for not telling her before dropping his pants. On the other hand, she never would have thought someone with this kind of past would open up so easily, no matter how good the sex was. She just kept looking at him, in the semi darkness of the room. She ran a finger along his jaw, replaced his ruffled hair, quietly hoping he would answer questions she didn’t dare asking.

It did explain a lot, though.

From the moment their eyes had met, she had been pulled by this mystery in his gaze. His expression was warm and friendly when they talked, but as soon as he looked away, he had this strange cold stare at the rest of the world. There was nothing agressive about him, but he just seemed to drift away in his thoughts, somewhere nobody could follow him to. And from what he had just shared, probably somewhere nobody would have wanted to follow him to, either.

Under the white duvet, she felt his hand softly caressing her belly. She had trouble imagining these same fingers, gently tickling around her navel, pulling the trigger to kill another man. How many men? How long ago?

She pulled on the bed cover a bit, and climbed on top of him. From the height, her curls fell like black cascades almost covering her breasts, but not quite. The sight seemed to please him, as he smiled that heart-melting smile that had gotten her in his bed just hours before. “Oh Gawd! He is so handsome…” she thought to herself.

Handsome, smart, successful and fun to hang around with… And oh, so very hot in bed! Her toes still curled at the thought of the ride he had given her prior to this disturbing chat. And it seemed obvious that he wouldn’t refuse a second round soon, from his reaction to her slow suggestive rub against his hips.

It wasn’t as if they were married after all. Or in a relationship of any kind, for that matter… They were just two strangers enjoying themselves… And sharing dark secrets, very dark secrets from the past. She pressed her palms on his chest, and wondered if he had any other bombs to drop on her.

Just as if he could read her thoughts, his smile faded away. The seriousness that replaced it gave her a long shiver down the spine. He ran his hands up her legs, slowly, until they rested on her hips. Then his lips curled into a weird grin, while his gaze remained somber…

You believe me, Gorgeous… Don’t you?

She nodded nervously, making her curls bounce on her shoulders. Swiftly, he moved in the dark, and before she realized it, he held both of her writs tightly locked in his strong fingers. He didn’t hurt her, but his grip left no doubt in her mind that she had no chance if he decided to.

Her thoughts were bumping into each other, like pinballs… Frozen by fear, there still was a pinch of excitement tickling her stomach, being at the mercy of an (ex?) mercenary. Her heart thumped as if it wished to leave her chest, but she fought hard to stay cool.

She let a high pitched shriek when he suddenly rolled over her, and pinned her to the mattress.

Breaking into a loud laughter, his face softened again.

I’ve never been a sniper, Babe… I was just pulling your leg!

She giggled back, half relieved. Wasn’t that exactly what a man burdened with secrets would say? But when he pressed his warm lips on hers, she thought she could still believe him until dawn.

Only then, she’d deal with her doubts…
