This is one of the reasons why you really need to invest in a good bff, if you don’t already have one. J, my best friend of the last 30++ years, is currently very sick (nothing life threatening, no worries there) and I consider she would totally deserve to spend much Me-me-me time. But no… J, despite her soar throat, constant caughing and fever flashes is still thinking about me!
This afternoon, just after getting a written update about her health (phone calls have been banned for the time being, for lack of voice on the other end), I received a second email, just saying ”Interesting article in the newspaper!” with the following picture attached:

I knew I would indeed be interested the moment I spotted the flying Dannebrog (Danish flag). But I didn’t suspect what I was about to read…
Ikea (Swedish, I know… but it doesn’t matter. Especially today!) decided to throw a contest to send someone around Denmark for two weeks, seeking what makes the Danish Life one of the happiest on the planet!
You can imagine how excited this got me, right?
RIGHT??
The winner will get an all-paid two weeks trip to Denmark. Plane tickets, an apartment in Copenhagen, food, transportation in Denmark, attraction costs… Name it! All they are asking for, is someone passionate who wants to meet Danes, get to know Denmark better, and hopefully discover the secrets behind the Danes’ happiness!
If that’s not the job for me, I wonder what could be?!?
I soooooo so so so so want to win this! I don’t even care about the money, I want to live this totally unique experience!
Oh, Ikea, if only you knew… Well, you will, soon! But unfortunately, I need to make one of these ugly presentation videos again, and I suuuuuuck at it. I am not camera shy, but I am just really bad at filming myself. It is the only thing that could come in the way…
But it is not going to stop me. Oh no!
So if you have a couple of positive, luck-filled vibes to spare, send them this way, please! Because I am preparing to show these people that nobody deserves these two dreamy weeks more than I do… I am sorry, other danophiles around the world, but that is a fact!
Oh my… This would be so much fun!
I’m so lucky to have J, always on the look-out when I am not, for these kind of things! I can’t imagine finding out about this contest after it would have been over. I would have kicked myself for missing it!
May I be a heldig kartoffel (lucky potato) come July 1st (that’s when the subscriptions to the contest will be closed).
Yup!ย Held og lykkeย (good luck) to me!!
Held og lykke to you, lovely. ๐ x

This job certainly has your name on it. If I can assist in any way to make it a reality then just let me know.

Thank you, Brutus ๐ I am aware that they will most likely choose someone younger and more on the cute side, since the point is to make a video diary of the winner’s adventures around Copenhagen… But I am still hopeful! And if there is anything I can think of, that would require your help, I’ll make sure to let you know. The offer itself is really appreciated! xx

Well …. I donโt actually know what you look like, but Iโm very confident that you look younger and cuter than me. But anyway, I would have thought that in 2019 the notion of youth and cuteness had little to do with journalism.
Thatโs not to suggest, of course, that you are not young and cute! Itโs merely to suggest that I recognise journalistic talent in your work and, in this particular case, a genuine passion for the subject.

If I may make a suggestion about the video see if you can get someone to do it for you rather than a “selfie” video. Then they can hold the phone or camera at your face height and you are not looking down into the lens. You can always try a few takes and see which one you like before you submit it. But the angle is important as you can look directly into the lens and just talk to it like you would to a person. Good luck.

Thank you, Anne ๐ And thank you for the advice, you are absolutely right. I’ll probably ask Chรฉri to assist me, to make sure I am not distracted by having to frame myself, and everything! With a little luck and a lot of work, I might be able to pull something not-too-bad out ๐

Thank you ๐ ๐ ๐ Who knows… this could bring me a step closer to getting us our VIP passes from Margrethe II!! I would even settle for a IP pass… Or a P pass for that matter! As long as it gives us free access to Vikingland for as long as we wish ๐

YESSSS! I’ve been thinking of sending her that letter we were talking about. What’s the worse thing that can happen? She’ll say no?
I’m sending good thoughts for you to get that trip. No one deserves it more. ๐ ๐

If the competition organisers see this page, I would just like to put in a word for Cyranny. I have known her a couple of years now, and other than being a lovely person all round and a fantastic author, what most strikes one about her is her incredible love and knowledge for all things Denmark-related. I know how much winning this would mean to her.
