This is why…

A lot of people don’t understand why I look mildly excited when we are about to go on a trip.

The thing is, Cheri and I don’t see the list of things to do the same way. And while I am up and already getting ready to pack up the car, he is still sleeping soundly, and not worried at all about schedule.

Don’t get me wrong, I know we’ll have a great time with my best friend in our little cabin in the middle of the woods, but the stress pre-trip, I could do without.

Cheri’s to-do list will probably look like this, when he wakes up;

  • Have breakfast
  • Check out the days’ news
  • Get dressed
  • Pack up the car
  • Leave for the cabin

 

My to-do list goes more like;

  • Finish post
  • Make sure camera batterie is charging
  • Pack up Freja stuff
  • Take quick shower
  • Pack up clothes for the weekend
  • Check that Cheri hasn’t packed 10 pairs of socks and forgotten his bathing suit
  • Make a list of the food we are bringing
  • Make a list of the drinks we are bringing
  • Remind Cheri that we are leaving at 2 pm
  • Check food list
  • Go around the apartment, picking random things we’ll need
  • Start to (really) stress out
  • Check emails in case my best friend has sent a last minute note
  • Get dressed
  • Packing food in the cooler, using my best Tetris skills
  • Check lists
  • Find the bathing suit that I have been looking for the last two days
  • Double check bags
  • Give Freja her calming pill
  • Wish I had calming pills
  • Really envy Freja getting kind of high
  • Checking everything before packing up the car
  • Take a breath and possibly a glass of milk
  • Go looking for Freja, who understood what’s going on, and found a place to hide
  • Keep looking
  • Dang that cat is a master at hiding!
  • Ask Cheri to help me find Freja
  • Use treats, in vain
  • Finally find Freja, wrap her in a blanket to avoid claw injuries
  • Remember about charging batterie
  • Mentally making one last check up, knowing we HAVE forgotten something
  • Leave for the cabin

 

See? That’s why…

    1. LOL That’s exactly what I was thinking, writing my post. And he has been using it very wisely the past couple of days, let me tell you that!!

      Oh, I took a picture for you just the other day… I’ll try to post it sometime later today, when we are in the middle of the woods, and I am sipping on a Corona with lime 😛

  5. I’m a list maker. For everything, I have a list. I get so much satisfaction when I’m able to put a check mark next to a task. Sometimes I’ll find an old list that I forgot to throw away, and I have to try to remember what it was even for, but as long as every point is checked off, I can relax.

Hahaha it does feel good to look at an all checked list 🙂 I don’t make as many lists in my everyday life, but I am pretty intense when it comes to planning a gettaway that involves other people. Curiously, when I travel alone, I am much less stressed about things. I guess it is because I have no one to disappoint but myself 😛

      3. Yes. Good point. And let’s not forget the many stories revolving around crimes of passion committed in those cabins in the woods on cold dark nights. A miscalculation with the catering may be enough to trigger something. So be careful out there.

      5. And now I too shall be embarking on a holiday. To Scotland. Both the shadow and I are having some difficulty mustering much enthusiasm (perhaps he is becoming more like me?) but when friends issue invitations one (or two) is obliged to start packing bags. There was even talk of a small diversion at the end to drive from New York to Montreal (the Spring drive?) but this seems like an unlikely event. Nevertheless, there remains a remote chance that I might need some tourism tips.

You, him, or you both had an interesting idea there, though I doubt it would make your friends would appreciate the last minute escapade 😉 Just make sure to let me know if you decide to head to Montreal at some point in time…. I would be more than happy to give you a tour and help you during your French immersion 🙂 Where are you stopping, on your way to Brave Heart’s Land? (if I may ask, of course)
