.
This morning, I was getting ready to leave for work when Chéri called me from the kitchen.
”Chérie!! (that’s me) Je pense que j’ai quelque chose pour ton blog!”
He is very supportive of my second try at blogging. If I asked him why, he would most probably tell me that he knows it makes me feel better to write again. But I suspect that he figured after fifteen years together, that if he had to put up with each and every crazy idea that goes through my mind, he didn’t have to suffer alone. That, and possibly the fact that it keeps me away from my job computer.
Fair enough.
I was pondering if I should go and check what he had in store for me, or head to work and ask him when I got back… I was ready to leave, after all, and the running laptop in my backpack felt like a portable furnace. Knowing that the temperature in the apartment was at a nice 29.5 C degrees when we woke up (85,1 F) at 5h30, I didn’t exactly need the extra heat.
I’m not complaining about the heat wave here. Even if it’s the third or the fourth in a row this year… Hey! Some people pay big bucks to spend time in a sauna. We get to experience the same for free, and we can do it sitting on a comfortable couch, watching TV instead of getting a numb butt on a hard wooden bench, watching rocks on a little stand, and a bucket of water with a ladle.
But I digress. Surprising, I know. Let’s blame it on the weather.
Still debating the ”should I stay or should I go” question by the door, I decided that I would be a bad girlfriend, if I put work before a good blogging idea.
When I walked into the kitchen, Chéri had a buch of plastic wrapped crates piled up on the table.
”What’s that??” – I asked.
Chéri explained that he had ordered six scallops from the grocery store this week. And when we got them delivered, the store had wrapped each of them individually. One scallop, one styrofoam plate and wrapping. What???
I mean… WHAT?
I get that people at the grocery store don’t wait for our order to prepare packages…. But who buys only one scallop? WHO?? Packs of two, three, four… I get it.
But seriously, even with today’s economy, who buys only one?
It’s kind of sad. Chéri and I make big efforts to recycle and compost. I’m disappointed our grocery store doesn’t make more efforts to avoid unnecessary waste. But I must say, Chéri you were right 😉

It’s strange to say the least.
