Early bird now. In my ‘day’ I was a definite night owl and never surfaced much before 8 a.m. at the very earliest. Now? Even if I want to sleep in, I have a rather noisy four footed and furry alarm “clock” who usually greets the day (at 5 a.m. or earlier) by barking as the neighbor takes her dogs out for an early walk. He then whines at me and makes ‘werfing noises” until I get up. I put him out, and go crash on the couch for an hour or so. Yep. Early bird. It’s true, too that the taste of cold worm in the morning isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Jim – Garfield Cartoonist
I’ve been a night owl, from the moment my parents couldn’t control the time I went to bed anymore 😛 But working a day shift now, I have to be both which can be a little tricky. I have to go to sleep at a reasonable hour, and I wake up just early enough to log in for work 😉
Did you use to work the graveyard shift? (I’m asking because I did when I was in my 20s, and I just looooved it (especially when I worked as an emergency dispatcher).
I used to work 18 to 48 hour shifts, sometimes the day shift, sometimes the night shift. I was younger then and enjoyed the unpredictability. It all caught up to me after being in the paid fire department for 20 years, and at 38 I was forced to retire early due to major PTSD. Yesterday I looked up Hurricane Irene on YouTube and came across this clip in which someone had recorded the flood in Upstate New York where I had been working at the time, and the memories of what I had seen made me extremely sad. Of my two decade long career, September 11th and Hurricane Irene were the two events that were most traumatic to me.
I can’t even imagine how traumatic working these two major events, not mentionning all the other people you helped through your career… No wonder you left the field wounded. But I am sure that there are countless people out there, grateful for what you did for them 🙂
I’m a night owl by nature. But, I love early mornings too, especially on a trip. I love getting out, before a place awakens. Mornings are stunning. Now, a morning in which I’m going into work? Hmmm. I’ll have to reassess that.
Hahahahahaha Same here, Sonofa-Chacha! I don’t know why, but when on a trip, I am up to see the sun rise (and I usually stay up until it sets… Especially in Denmark :P). But at home? I want to go to bed as late as I can allow myself, and I put dark spells on my alarm clock if it rings before 7 am LOL
Used to be an early bird, until I my head injuries when I was attacked….now mornings are hard.
But I don’t think I am a night owl either….I love coming home from work and showering, eating and going to bed.
I can get up early if I have to or stay up late if I have to, but my head always suffers as a result.
I have the same problem. I have trouble getting to sleep, so I’m often up late, and I have trouble staying asleep, so I’m often up early. If I had my druthers I would go to sleep at 11pm and wake up at 8am, but that hardly ever happens.
😦 I wish I could send you a little of my sleeping abilities over to you. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits my pillow, and rarely wake up before the next day starts, unless Freja decides I need a reminder that she controls us.
Me too, Chuck 😉 Just depending on the time of the year. Normally I am a total night owl, but when on vacation, especially on a trip far away from home, I am up before the sun 😛
I’m definitely an early bird. It’s 10:20 pm where I live right now and I can barely keep my eyes open, but by 6:30 tomorrow morning I’ll be wide awake.

I think I’m slowly switching to ”early bird” mode. But I enjoy night-time so much that I still have night owl’s tendencies 😛

I guess we’ll have to come up with an alternative expression for you, Caramel? How about… Hmmm… A flexible sparrow? 😉

lol – when I left hospital six years ago, my Doctor said I was a walking miracle. I’ve always rather liked that description. 🙂

Well…. It seems like even if I’m a day late to answer my comments, you’ll only read my reply tomorrow morning then 😛 Night night good Sir 😉
