Vegetmite! YUCK!!!!!!!! You would think I would like it since my dad was an Aussie, but even he hated it. Although, I have many friends and family down under who absolutely LOVE the stuff.
LOOOOOOOL When we were in Australia, last year, we just ”had” to try it, and I wish Chéri had filmed me the first time I tasted it. Oh YUCK indeed. But I must say, an Aussie friend offered to prepare me a toast with just the right amount of the brown stuff, and it was a lot less disgusting. We didn’t bring any back anyway… Not even as a joke 😛
I’ll never try Vegemite (spell??) Everything I’ve ever heard about that stuff puts me right off. Now the WORST thing I’ve ever consumed? Those really awful crispy chicken sandwiches from Mickey Dees yesterday certainly qualify. Sitting the fried food in the grease vat for an extended time is not the way to ensure good sales UGGHH. But the tostada from a questionable Mexican ‘restaurant’ that came with a large quantity of hair in it qualifies too (I didn’t actually eat it, I spied the greasy strands and poked at the thing uncovering what was placed on it. OMG or perhaps it is the stewed tomatoes from my elementary school days which gave me a life-long loathing of cooked tomatoes, onions and peppers. (triple UGGHH). Ew.
Mouahahahahahaha all ”good” picks, Melanie 🙂 But I must say that the tostada (questionable was quite a polite choice of word) wins, even if you didn’t actually eat it (Thank God!!). I gagged just imagining it LOL
Thanks, Cyranny! My husband had eaten at that Mexican place before and said the food was good. I think, however, that it had changed hands since he’d been there because the staff in there clearly didn’t want any ‘gringos’ on the premises. I don’t know why they didn’t just ask us to leave in the first place, but perhaps pulling such a nasty trick suited them. We didn’t pay of course.
Oh my, Cheryl… LOL LOL LOL! I looove Tom Hanks, thank you for the scene reminder! Big was such a funny movie. And I am totally with you about the oysters. I just can’t figure how some people enjoy these slimmy things.
Poor you, Paula… I can totally understand your disgust. As a child, my father forced me to eat a whelk (some kind of sea snail). Because, you know… ”You can’t say you don’t like it unless you try it!” Well, now, I KNOW 😉
Ohhh YUCK!! I believe that if a kind of animal worked so hard to look disgusting, we shouldn’t eat them… At least as a sign of respect for the effort! LOL Seriously… Still moving? No way. Ever. Nope! 😉
Soushi!
But with that said, my son had me try a different kind of soushi years later for it took that long for me to be brave enough again
, and it was a lot better!
I’m with you… I never got why so many people went crazy for sushi. I’m not a fan of raw meat or fish altogether. I remember years ago, a good friend of mine had convinced me to try sushi, promising that there were so many kinds, I would definately find my match.
32$ (which was a fortune for the time) and a very deceiving dinner later, I decided that I would just be fine not following the trend LOL
Locusts…. As grasshoppers??? Nope, nope, nope! I wouldn’t mind using the ground insects powders, you can use in some dishes to add proteins. But if it still looks like a bug, I’m not eating it!! 😉
Duck brain. This was in China and it was seen as a great delicacy. We had to be polite and choke a mouthful down. Fortunately ducks are small and do not have large brains so it was easy to just take a small bit.
Sometimes, it almost looks as if countries make up ”delicacies”, just to enjoy watching foreigners eat disgusting stuff, doesn’t it? Jokes aside, bravo for managing to swallow that! I don’t know how I would have done…
Mac and cheese made with nutritional yeast instead of real cheese. It’s not the texture that irks me, it’s the taste. The taste of nutritional yeast is just weird especially when you put too much.
I don’t think I’ve ever tasted nutritional yeast, but you sure don’t make me want to try it 😉 Anyway, it can’t be mac & cheese if there’s no cheese involved, and I loooove my cheese!
I love mac and cheese but at the time, I was having heartburn after having cheese. So I had to devise a way to substitute cheese. Nutritional Yeast tastes like parmesan if you put the right amount. Too little and it’ll be bland, too much and it’ll taste awful. Fortunately, I resolved my heartburn problem and now I can have real cheese in my mac n cheese.
I didn’t think I would disagree with anyone with this question… I do like Gorgonzola, but I agree that that kind of cheese stinks, and can seem uninviting. I won’t try to make you like it… 😉

I get it only when we have family and friends coming from down under. Otherwise – NO WAY! 🙂

This reminds me of the scene in “Big” where Tom Hanks is at a buffet. An oyster I was forced to eat
