The fabulous Maquessa Matthews has recently started a month-long challenge to get back to writing on a daily basis…
I must admit that I haven’t read all of her posts so far, but everyday Instagram reminded me about Marquessa’s challenge, and many of the subjects really spoke to me. So I thought I’d play along. They say that copying is a form of flattery, and I hope Marquessa will see it that way.
So, for this first day, here is a list of ten things that make me content!
Waking up before my alarm clock’s ring
I love waking up an hour prior to the planned time, and being able to snuggle back into sleep. My bed has this terrible habit of being the most comfortable just before I have to leave it. Waking before the alarm allows me to enjoy the extra comfort this much longer…
What day is it?
On the same theme, I really like waking up, rolling over to see the time on my clock, realizing that I only have 15 minutes left in bed… Before remembering that it is the weekend, and that I don’t have to get up at all.
Snow storm on a day off
We are currently heading towards our fifth heatwave of the year… So I won’t enjoy this one for a while, still. But having a big snow storm on a day when I don’t have to leave the house is almost magical. Freezingland is beautiful when there’s snow covering all the greyness of winter, and you can sit by the window, wrapped in a blanket and sipping on hot chocolate.
I’ve seen this a hundred times, but
For some reason, I just can’t resist watching my favorite movies when they get played on tv. No matter how many times I’ve seen them, and regardless the fact that I own them on DVD (and can watch them any time I please), I just have to sit down and watch them again. (Chéri doesn’t get this at all)
The sound of silence
Having almost constant headaches, silence is something that I cherish. Of course, if I find silence in a beautiful scenery, I enjoy it all the more. But living in the city, I find it more special to experience a total lack of noise in my own house. Even if it only lasts a couple of minute, I’ll take it gladly.
A lot of people are wary among strangers. I wouldn’t say that I throw myself at people I don’t know on a daily basis, but I try to always keep an open heart, wether I’m traveling or just waiting at a bus stop. That’s how I met some extraordinary people… Just being open to meet them when Life sent them my way.
Making a (little) difference
We don’t always realize how little it sometimes takes to make a difference in another person’s life. And it is always so rewarding to spread smiles around. They say that a good deed goes a long way, but believe me, you don’t have to wait to get that feelgood feeling.
Writing something significant
Which hasn’t happened in a (long) while. I love writing a post, about a personal matter, or a piece of fiction, and waking up the next morning to discover that it spoke to many people in a special way. That’s so heartwarming… It totally makes my day, and I really hope it happens again soon.
You’ve got mail
Aside from bills and advertisement, we only rarely get real mail anymore. Which is a shame, if you ask me. There’s something so cool about someone taking the time to sit down, hand write a little note and send it on a long (compared to the instant emails we are now used to) trip to your doorstep. Recieving such a note is sure to send me happy dancing in the living room!
Did anyone say Denmark?
Hah! You were starting to think I wouldn’t mention Vikingland, weren’t you? How could I make a list of things that make my day, without including Denmark? Anything about Denmark enlightens my life. Especially visiting it… But this will sadly have to wait a little. For now, I’ll settle for Danish fun facts, movies, music, food and all the memories I brought back from my four trips around the big tiny country.
