I think the marketing companies try to make vegetables look like meat to sell more of their “vegetarian” options for all those who wish they were actually eating meat, but for whatever reasons are not. I think they do this to make it look more appealing to the masses.
I think so too… I guess that makes sense for some people who have to cut on meat for medical reasons. But it makes me laugh when a vegetarian tries to ”convert” me, by saying that this false meat is as good and looks the same as real meat. 😉
I know, right?! My “sister” is a vegan and has been trying to “convert” me for years. UHHHH NO! Vegan is not a lifestyle I agree with or support in any way or fashion. 🙂
That one made my head hurt. Personally I don’t do either one. I also find it annoying that there’s the idea that vegetables MUST look like meat. They aren’t. The two will never be the same, no matter how many additives or spices or flavoring one puts in the vegetable in question. And to me (a dyed in the wool carnivore..((I’m actually an omnivore if the truth is told)) ) the TASTE will give it away every time. I’ve tried Nutrisystems and Jenny Craig and other diet programs, and they always try to disguise say cauliflower for ‘real bread or pizza dough’ and stuff like that. It doesn’t work. It still TASTES like cauliflower, not yeast inhanced floury goodness. No, you can’t fool a true food addict. Keep the veggie burgers. I’m going for some steak dang it. From an actual cow.
I like my meat too, and I don’t try to paint little pieces of it with green coloring, to convince vegetarians to eat it 😛
When I was young, my grand mother was following all the new ”eat healthier” food trends, and one of her phases was the tofu hot dogs… She kept telling us that we couldn’t tell the difference… Uhhh Yes we could!! Easily! Mouahahahahahaha
I am very happy with the arrival of Beyond Meat and other meat alternatives. I am not vegetarian but moving toward it more and more. And btw I have a vegan cook book that has a recipe for carrot hot dogs!
You just gave me the only good reason for ”beyond meat” meat, Anne. Thank you for that! I just don’t understand why people who don’t like meat, want to consume something that looks, feels and tastes like it… 😉
That carrot hot dogs recipe is intriguing… Any chance you might share that with us?? 🙂
This is a good inquiry… Wish I had a good response.
Never have I tried to make my veggies look like meat. However, I have made a mashed potato mountain. LOL! 😜
lol! Great question!
I have been vegetarian since I was six years old. I must admit, I am grateful that there are so many more quick easy options available nowadays. For so many years it was just cheese and tomato everything. I love my veggies, but I like trying any new vegetarian product available just because I love variety.
🙂 I think it is great that vegetatian products are being developed, because it does bring variety to the menu. I have nothing against being vegetarian or vegan, if anything, they probably do eat healthier than me, but I just love meat and fish too much to give it up 😛 What amuses me, is this tendency of making veggies ”look” like meat. Mimicking something you don’t want to eat just doesn’t make sense to me 😛

Because a lot of us don’t want to eat our vegetables, so we try to disguise them? 😂

Mouahahahahahaha good one! This just gave me the idea of making a plate with a piece of meat, and a siding of false meat!! That’d be hilarious 😛

I just read an article that Arby’s has introduced a carrot made out of meat called a “marrot.”
