Last day of working for this week… Det sidste! At last.
I put my coat and my boots on, gathered my purse and my lunch bag and got ready to head for the office. Just another day, wasn’t it? Just the usual “métro-boulot-dodo”, minus the subway that is of no use for me…
I stepped out the door, the air was barely fresh and it smelled of early spring. I know Mother Nature probably still has one or two surprises left for us, but today the sun was bright, warm and welcome…
As I got down the few steps from my doorstep, I noticed something in the snow. Something new and intriguing. A smiley face had been drawn in it. That was odd, in a nice way… Who could have left that little smiling face, and why?
I tried to look around, hoping to notice something else that would have been unusual. I looked and looked… In vain.
I stared at the smiley for a while, feeling exactly as if someone had left a bouquet of daisies on the doorstep, without any little card to know who to thank for the delicate attention.
What was I thinking? It was most probably just a kid who had stopped there for some kid reason, and drawn a smiley and then gone on… But there were no other snow graffiti around, and I couldn’t believe the young artist would have reserved his talent to my front yard only…
I eventually had to get on my way to work again, but that smiley stayed on the back of my mind all day…
When I came back home, the snow had melted, and the smiley was gone. Or had it been there in the first place?…
Sounds like Déjà vu to me.
