When Québec and Denmark meet… In person!

It is late… I should go to bed, close my eyes and get a good rest. But it just seems impossible for the moment.

In about 12 hours, I have an appointment with my future Danish tutor. I have only met Danes once before, and my first time was pathetic. I’ll write about it someday, but I didn’t expect to meet Danes that day. They were my favorite band’s lead singer and guitarist. I was totally unprepared, and the result was a little sad, although one of my favorite memories. I tried my best to look normal, but I felt like a 15 years old Bieber fan… It must have looked ugly.

I don’t feel prepared for tomorrow either. But at least, I know it is going to happen. I know it is stupid to feel this nervous about our appointment. We’ll meet in a coffee shop downtown. Since we don’t know what the other looks like, I’ll show up in advance, I’ll place my Danish lesson book in evidence on the table, and wait for a mysterious Danish young man to join me.

I have been waiting for this for so long… I think it would be less stressing to be out for a blind date. When you try to find your soulmate, if it doesn’t click during the first meeting, you know there are thousands of other men around. Move on, try again, better luck next time!

This young man might be one of the VERY few people here who can help me achieve the dream of being comfortable speaking at least basic Danish. I have to make a good impression. Have to. And that’s what is so nerve wrecking…

Yeah, I should go to bed… Life is what you make out of it, a wiseman said to me once. If I don’t try I won’t know what could happen. So I’ll rest, get prepared and sit in that coffee shop. And tomorrow night, I’ll probably come back here to tell you what happened….

  1. I’d like to know who that wise man was? I’m sure he didn’t influence your style of writing, that was something you had long before. Gør det bedste, du kan. Det skal nok lykkes for dig. Det er jeg helt sikker på!

    1. It was a very mysterious man from far far away… Full of wisdom and good tips. And you are right, he probably didn’t influence my way of writing, but he sure influenced my way of looking at life on some levels… 😉

  2. I was tempted to write a blog in Danish just for you. It was a teaser of sorts. I know that Google Translate can do a somewhat job of translating, but just think of how someday, you too will be able to understand Danish, without thinking about doing so. Good Luck!
