  1. I remember Mumma teaching us how to use the spinner. I don’t know if you remember them. She used to wash nappies, and then I remember us loading them into the spinner. It was bouncing and wobbling all over the place. Water would pour out into the bucket we placed beneath the spout. When I mention spinners to people half my age, they have no idea what I am talking about….which I think is probably a good thing.

    I also remember Mumma teaching me how to replace the ribbon on a typewriter. Teenagers would wonder what we are talking about. Saying that…fax machines have pretty much disappeared.

    We also learnt as children to hold our breaths when we were walking through the local shopping centre – because the air was thick blue with cigarette smoke. How wonderful we don’t have to worry about that now.
