I think I would want to double-check the nature of the stupidity involved. I don’t want to work with anyone who takes risks with safety and endangers others, nor who says things that upset and offend people. But a lack of training or education (which I would never associate with the word “stupid”) is something that can be addressed easily.
I don’t like working with people who are persistently lazy if it means it increases the pressure on team-mates. But if they can be motivated and understand how much work there is to do and how much of a team effort everything is…then I would hope for improvement.
I’ve worked with both types. (I have also, at various times, been guilty of both things.) The advantage of working with someone stupid is that if things get screwed up, you can blame the stupid person. The advantage of working with someone lazy is they’re less likely to screw things up. Neither advantage is worth the aggravation of working with stupid and/or lazy people.

I’ll take stupid. You can at least give them something they can do, and they are usually happier. I have ZERO tolerance for laziness.

I don’t really like the term “Stupid” but being Lazy is completely unfair to everyone else, so, I vote for the first option.

I work alone, so I am perfectly accustomed to both.

Neither!! I’d rather spend time trying to get the decision maker to fire them and hire someone who is competent!

I’d rather work with someone who is lazy, because then I could fix it and do their work if I needed the job to get done!

That’s not fair to those who do all the work. Then they have to double the work.

Someone lazy, because they will figure out the easiest and fastest way to get the job done.
