Any freedom is a responsibility and one’s decisions have consequences.
So if someone wants to use their free will in a grievous inflammatory way or in a way that incites others to criminal or wicked acts, perhaps there should be some culpability on the person who misused their freedom of speech.
I am watching this world that is becoming more divided on certain issues and watching what people in the limelight are saying, or perhaps not saying, as I think some realize the explosiveness of an ill-thought out commentary. Whereas, perhaps others don’t pay heed and spout out whatever enters their mind, woe-be-tide the results.
Perhaps there is more wisdom that ever in “there is a time to speak and there is a time to keep quiet”.
I couldn’t agree more!! You bring up a very rational and balanced perspective on the freedom of speech. Anything in excess is bad. But if used assiduously, it can do wonders.
Well said, Caramel! I believe in freedom of speech, but I think that some people (as always) interpret that in a much wider way than what they should…. I think that in any society, all freedoms have the limits we agree to respect. Freedom doesn’t mean ”complete freedom”. Unfortunately, with social medias in general, a lot of people seem to think that it is ok to say everything and anything they think. It is easy to feed the haters and the people spreading false or toxic information with attention. I prefer to keep silent.
I think there is a subtle difference between ”freedom of opinion” and ”freedom of speech”. I believe that people should have every right to think what they want… But sometimes, sharing these ideas at large is just not acceptable. It is a very sensible subject, for sure.
Yes I do. I don’t believe our forefathers gave that right for the spreading of lies and misinformation. It is a privilege and people who misuse it should be held accountable – just like any privilege.
I agree. A lot of people nowadays claim their freedom of speech to spread misinformation and toxic ideas. I hope we’ll find a way out of this scary spiral.

I don’t know. We all have a right to our opinions. Unfortunately it’s the unfortunate or fortunate actions of some that causes issues.
