There are numerous questions which I find challenging, all for different reasons:
– what were you wearing the night you were attacked? (WDTHTDWA? – A MODEST NAVY BLUE SKIRT AND A PALER BLUE WRAP-ROUND BLOUSE, FLAT NAVY BALLET SHOES – IT WAS THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR BUT I WAS STILL MODESTLY DRESSED)
– when is your birthday? (I AM ETERNALLY 21)
– how much do you earn? (NOYB – BUT A LOT LESS THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE)
– so why did you break up with Goldfinch? (I DIDN’T)
– how much do you weigh? (WDYNTK? – I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA)
….and there are other questions that I won’t list here. I hate it when people learn I was the victim of a crime and for some strange reason, the feel impelled to ask me details about what happened. I am always baffled by that. It seems so insensitive that they would ask me to recall what happened that night. I just assume they don’t really grasp the great effort it takes to recover from trauma and be able to function in this fast paced world without breaking down when memories overwhelm you.
