Baby steps…

20211102_202118

.

Wether you’ve been blogging for a while, or if you’re new in the Bloggosphere, you probably know that one of the things that motivates us to keep going, is a nice milestone.

It can be many things… Your first ”View”, your first ”Like”, your first comment. Your first month or year blogging. Getting 50, 250, 1000 followers. Or maybe, if you’re silly like me, collecting the flags of certain countries and territories (I’m still waiting for you, Greenland!!).

As the months and years go on, unless you are a statistics freak (or someone trying to bring their blog to a commercial level), you eventually understand that numbers don’t mean much, compared to the achievement of lasting.

We see blogs appearing and others vanishing every month.

And the difference between the sites that make it through time, and those that end up fading in the background is the dedication to keep making baby steps, day in and day out.

As I mentionned last week, six years ago, I was standing before my brand new Cove. It was a blank canvas, and I didn’t really know what I would fill it with, aside from all my Denmark-related shenanigans.

But I put one foot in front of the other, and took baby steps, making sure to keep going. Sometimes, I tripped. Sometimes, you Lovelies lifted me so high with your love and support that my feet didn’t touch the ground for a while!

Through thick and thin, I stubbornly marched on.

And today, I realized I was posting my 6,000th post. Six thousands! They weren’t all brilliant (as a matter of fact, most of them weren’t), but still.

That means sitting down, preparing a little something and hitting the ”publish” button 6,000 times.

And that’s all thanks to you, Lovelies.

Thank you for welcoming me and my silliness in this incredible community!

If you are new to WordPress, and doubt you have what it takes to make it in this strange jungle, I can only encourage you to take the leap… Tell us who you are, share what you like, don’t copy what others do. Just show your true colors, and have fun!

And go one baby step at a time.

Someday you just might about to press ”publish” on your 6,000th post too!

  1. I can attest to this and โ€” that is such a wonderful milestone! I may have run silent for far longer than I should, but I didnโ€™t abandon this space. Iโ€™ve missed it beyond belief and it pains me to see just how much of it I want here for. All you can do is you, and youโ€™ve done it.

    1. Dear Sarah… I have to take a minute to tell you how very happy it makes me to see you back around ๐Ÿ™‚ . Since the very beginning of The Cove, I’ve been in total admiration of your work. I hope you’re doing well, and that your leave wasn’t because of anything dramatic. Welcome back, fairy wordsmith ๐Ÿ™‚ And thank you for coming back to my blog… It means a LOT to me ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

      1. Of course. I was never really gone, just very quiet. Nothing dramatic, but still, I felt a little overwhelmed when I started writing my books again. It was way past time to drive back in again and Iโ€™m glad to be back. Iโ€™ve missed you very much. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Well done on this achievement. Reaching these targets takes not just a lot of hard work and dedication but the creativity to ensure you blog remains fresh and interesting.
You are definitely embraced by whichever Muse looks after creative bloggers.

  3. Congratulations. I have almost abandoned blogging because I have said it all at times. Then I come back for a few more posts before stopping again when I run out of words or ideas. I’ve had three sites pirated and offered back to me for a lot of dollars, each time decided I would stop, unable to use my name or blog name again because it was not considered mine any longer. I am now on my fifth attempt after about ten years of blogging and continue to take time off between posts because of health problems, but at all times thankful for all the wonderful WordPress friends I have made over the years. Just keep on with what you are doing.

    1. Yikes, three pirated sites?? I really feel for you… I wonder if I would have kept going on if I had been pirated once. Let alone three times. You sure are a fighter, and keep doing your thing… The WordPress family needs all of its members ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope your health is better now ๐Ÿ™‚ Wishing you all the best xx

      1. Actually I have advanced MS that can only go one way now. But you are right, I am a fighter. Have had to be because of the MS and having it most of my life– 68 years of it. Being pirated is not much fun, especially since no one at WP would even try to help me get it back but even worse was being unable to find all of my friends each time I started over. I have to say though that each time I began again I found new friends like you to fill the gaps. Thank you for being a friend, even though I seldom have the energy to spend on the computer now.

    1. Thank you Lily ๐Ÿ™‚ As you might have noticed, I caught up with your posts today (and was soooooo glad that the gas issue is solved at last). I didn’t get to comment much since I was at work, but I still think your blog should get way more exposure than it does so far… Lebanon is in my thoughts almost everyday because of people like you, and I really hope things ”really” get better soon for you soon. *Sending lots of love*

  4. Congrats and thank you for the encouragement to continue. I remember being a new blogger. That was four years ago! I have had many faux breaks and a recent real one but I keep coming back. I enjoy blogging. I love it. I wish I had the focus to monetize but I’ve come to accept that isn’t in the cards for me and that is ok too. I’ll continue doing as I do๐Ÿค“ Thanks again, Cyranny

    1. Dear Eve… Your comeback is making many people smile ๐Ÿ™‚ It is absolutely fine to take a hiatus from your blog when ”real life” is calling. It is even healthy when you need it. And the blog ging family, in general, holds no grudge ๐Ÿ˜‰ We’re just happy to see you back! Welcome back ”home” ๐Ÿ™‚ And thank you for your kind words xxx

  5. Bravo C! That is an accomplishment. A famous writer once said: “There is no such thing as inspiration there is just hard work.” I think it was Somerset Maugham. I hope you will carry on with thousands more posts C.

    1. Thank you, Anne ๐Ÿ™‚ I think that blogging is a mix of inspiration and hard work, but your quote sure is flattering. We’ll see where this adventure takes me.. but so far, it (almost) only brought me great experiences… Here’s to many more posts from you and me ๐Ÿ˜‰ xx
