As you might know, a little while back, I decided to participate to the NYC Midnight Challenge for the first time.
I say a little while back, but seen how long the wait to get the results has seemed, I might have sent my story in a decade ago.
The wait is over, now.
Drumroll please…
I didn’t make it to the top ten. Or the honorable mentions.
Meaning that the game is over for me. At least for this time around. Of course, I’m disappointed. I don’t think anybody enters that kind of competition thinking they have absolutely no chance to make it. I liked the story I submited, Ephemeral colors, and I did hope to make it to the second round. But at the same time, I was fully aware that my chances weren’t that good, given that English isn’t my mother tongue, and that there were tons of very talented writers competing.
So yeah, I’m disappointed, but not surprised.
I received the judges’ feedback, which is constructive, and I hope that I’ll use it well. And maybe, just maybe, next time, I might make it to the honorable mentions.
On a much happier note, Brutus whom I admire and like a whole dang lot, got the 4th place in his group!! Yay!! Congratulations, dear friend! His story was great (no surprise there) and I can’t wait to read his second round take. If anything, it would have felt really awkward if I had made it, and not him.
So all in all… Nothing is rotten in the state of Denmark!
Denmark… *Sigh*
They are full of bullshit, you should have gotten through to the second round at least

Thank you Fab One… I had reasonable hopes, especially since the challenge was a fantasy one, but Cibelle and Vohne didn’t win the judges’ hearts. Maybe another time 🙂

I shall go and set the all alight, right after I have done a few places here

At least you tried. That’s more than a lot of us — including me — can say.

Boo. 😦 Cibelle and Vohne deserved better. Hope this won’t put you off writing them. xxx

I’m not going to say anything about not making the cut. Instead I’m going to congratulate you on your courage to try in the first place. And by the way your English is fine…”probably gooder than mine.” 😁
I think it takes a lot of courage to enter such a contest to start with. It’s like sending your first born kid off to school hoping he doesn’t get beat up. I just got up the nerve to offer an e-book I wrote for free download in my site.
Try again, try again, try again. I’ll be rooting for you.
