We all share some interests with many others.
But there is something especially exciting about meeting someone who shares an odd obsession of yours. I must say that after my many years of loving Denmark, I had come to think that I would never spend time with someone whose eyes would sparkle listening to my favorite Danish memories.
2020 being my (first) intendedly positive year, I should have seen this coming.
As you might know, because of the bushfires, Chéri and I had to change our itinirary plans several times before traveling to Australia. And only in the very end, did we add Brisbane to our Oz tour.
Amanda, from Something to Ponder About got in touch with me, offering that we’d arrange to meet. I really really wanted to, but I didn’t want to promise anything, because I know me, and me can be a bit unpredictable while wonderlusting.
But things going pretty much as we planned, I spent my first evening in Brisbane arranging a breakfast meeting with the only other well assumed danophile I know (though Amanda is, to my opinion, a little Scandinavia-flexible… Hehehehe) I wonder if Chéri was worried to be stuck with two Denmark lovers at once. But there would be food involved, so he’d have something to focus on, if he ever needed to phase out.
The next morning, after learning that there was such a thing as elevator traffic when you live at the 48th floor (aouch!), I finally met with Amanda at long last.
I wasn’t surprised to learn that the gorgeous lady before me actually had Danish roots (Dang! I am soooo jealous!). It didn’t take long before the conversation turned to places we had visited, and experiences we had and souvenirs we had gathered over the years.
And between two bites of banana bread, and anecdotes about previous trips, Amanda reached into her purse.
I have a little something for you…
She caught me off guards. I was traveling so light that I hadn’t brought any gift for my Denmark-loving friend. Dang! Dang! Dang! She handed me a little pouch over the table. I opened it with shaking fingers, to discover the little house on the header picture.
A Nyhavn house!! And not just any of them. Nyhavn 17!

The Skagen yellow house is probably one of the best known buildings in Denmark. Only a true danophile could know how meaningfull this little house would be. Like a secret handshake, testing me!
I think I passed that test… LOL
We went walking along the river, and shared much more memories. We had to part, because that’s how life is, but I knew a part of her was coming back to Freezingland with me.
And a part of Vikingland, that had traveled from Denmark to Australia, and back with me to Canada…
And that’s what happens when danophiles collide, even just over breakfast!
What a lovely gift.

This sounds like it was an amazing and unforgettable experience for you. Unfortunately, I haven’t had any of those lately due to work being my main focus for the past few months, but when I do, I’ll definitely be writing about it. 😉
