Delete? – Part 1

She was sitting in the dentist-like long chair, her head covered with sticky electrodes. There were far more screens, and electronic devices she couldn’t even name, than she could have imagined. The crowd of doctors, nurses and other specialists was quite impressive, and when the room went dark, and she was blinded by some kind of spotlight, she finally had a doubt.

You are sure this will work, aren’t you? I mean, I trust you, doctor, but I just want to be sure I’m not going to fuck up my whole past!

Most of the people getting ready for the procedure weren’t even paying attention to her, but Dr Weinster turned her way, smiling as he always did, and tried to reassure her.

We’ve been in the business for eight years now, Miss, and you would have heard about “Fresh Start” in the news if we didn’t know exactly what we’re doing!

Dr Weinster’s clear laughter seemed quite frank and honest. She trusted him, but still she was giving the whole team access to her brain, and she just couldn’t be totally comfortable with that.

Ok, Maud. A quick recap, and we’ll be ready to proceed. So… Once we’ve sedated you, you’ll wake up in your bed, at the precise date you’ve provided us with. You’ll relive the same events, and it might seem a bit disorienting, since you’ll have clear memory of your current life. You won’t have any control over your actions, until that precise choice you’ve decided to change. Now remember, when we… I mean, when “you” come to the turning point in your life, you’ll have the last word. If you make the same mistake… There is no refund.

She nodded.

Very well, then… I guess we’re ready to go!

Maud felt a dizzy feeling taking over, as the nurse at her side smiled to her gently.

Count backward to me, starting from ten, Maud.

Her mouth suddenly felt dry, and she could barely keep her eyes open.

10…. 9…. 8….

To be continued….  This is loosely inspired by a movie I really like, “Eternal sunshine for the spotless minds”.

    1. Thank you Meg 🙂 I hope you won’t be disappointed 😉

What would you change in your life, if you had a chance to do things differently? (If I may ask, of course)

      1. I have quite a list…. and I’ve thought about it enough that I have selected pivotal points along my timeline where I should have made a different decision. They go all the way back to when I was 4 years old! So basically I would change almost everything. 🤯

      2. Nope, not at all! I’m not particularly pleased with the way my life turned out. Of course all of this is predicated on the idea that I would have the foreknowledge to choose differently the second time around. Which is why I’m so interested to hear how your story plays out!

      3. I understand better, now, thanks for the explanation 🙂 It great, because, the rest of the story was somewhat pretty simple when I first thought about it. But discussing this subject you and the others, I am now adding more depth into it. It just might end in three short parts, after all 😉

I think I could easily find days I’d like to live again, but would you dare to “change” any day of your past?

  1. Oh wow how fascinating! As you know I think a lot about how the choices I have made have brought me where I am. I wonder.. if I could change just one of them would I? Hmmm….I don’t know! But it’s interesting to think about!

      1. Hey… with any change of choices in my earlier life, I might not have gone to Denmark by now… There is NO WAY I am taking the risk of giving that up 😛 LOL

  2. I think we all have that one regret we wish we could change. If it was only as easy as being sedated and taken back to that particular moment.

    1. I agree, but I’ve been thinking a lot about if I’d do it, even if I could easily… There are some things in my life now that are far too precious to risk them starting to change past choices…. I think 😉

    1. Awww thank you, Rachel 🙂 It is always so heart warming to get such kind words… It encourages me a lot to keep working, even when I don’t have a lot of time on my hands, and when inspiration is not at its highest… Thank you very very much 🙂 xx
