I can lead a horse to water
But cannot make him drink
Can teach a monkey mathematics
Cannot make him think
Can teach an old dog brand new tricks
But cannot teach respect
Can give you everything you want
But not what you expect
Actually … that is just stupid rhyming stuff that makes no sense. Sorry.
I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a robin fly, but certainly there is something beautifully bewildering about watching birds effortlessly airborne. An aerodynamic mystery that should remain forever so. And I am reminded of a book, that I commend, entitled ‘Stand Still like the Humingbird’ by Henry Miller. Possibly out of print now.
I really like your poem (and your poetry), by the way.
I just noticed that the first reply I posted didn’t get recorded yesterday… Would WP dare to send my own comments to the spam file, now? That doesn’t seem fair, to me.
I’ve looked up Henry Miller’s book, and it seems to be possible to get my hands on a copy, so I might do just that. I’ll let you know…
I really appreciate your kind words regarding my poetry… I am what you could call an instinctive writer. I never studied writing, and I often get the feeling that I am an imposter, among the great authors around here. It is not stopping me, but it touches me even more when people appreciate the reading. So, thank you for that! xx
“There are times when I myself no longer know whether I said and did the things I report or whether I dreamed them up. Anyway, I always dream true. If I lie a bit now and then it is mainly in the interest of truth.”
― Henry Miller, Stand Still Like the Hummingbird
Ooooh, I like that… and I can relate. A very interesting look on the concept of truth and lies… Makes me want to read Mr Miller even more, now. Thank you for the excerpt, Brutus! xx
Perhaps… One thing is for sure, no one will ever be able to accuse me from not writing with my heart. And maybe sometimes, that’s better than technique and learnt skills 😉
Patience is a virtue.Well written.

And here’s something that resonates for me …..

‘and I often get the feeling that I am an imposter’ you say.
I hardly think so. Or perhaps we all are.
