The day has finally come.
Well, I hadn’t talked much about it here, but we just adopted our Silver Chinchilla Persian kitten. Freja…
On October 4th, I lost my previous Persian, Cissy. Cissy was four and a half years old and died in my arms after a sudden and massive heart attack. It wasn’t a complete surprise, since Cissy had been diagnosed with a terrible heart condition at the age of approximately 3 months. Back then the heart specialist that studied Cissy’s case had given us a one to three years life expectancy. She lived to be four and a half, and every day was a blessing. So I was a bit skeptical when my boyfriend suggested to get back in contact with the breeder we had dealt with. Four years back, she had offered to give us another kitten when we’d be ready to adopt. At the time, she would have traded kittens right away, but I never could have left Cissy go to a certain death as no one would have paid what we paid to keep her alive… So we took the deal, and settled to have a new, unbroken kitten free of charge when we would be ready.
At first, I was afraid it would look as if I was replacing Cissy. And it wasn’t the case at all. But our home was so empty, lifeless, especially when my better half was at work and I stayed home alone… I put aside what people could think and we went for it.
Cissy was an almost all white cat. She was a loving (and lovable) critter, but she was independent. She never meowed, rarely purred, and when she did, we couldn’t hear it (I had to feel it by resting a hand on her belly).
When we went to choose Freja, I wanted a kitten as different as possible… And I got served. My new furry-baby is a lot greyer, sounds like a tractor the moment I pet her, and she is vocal! Wow does she communicate! She meows when she goes to the litter, meows when she is done doing her thing in the litter, meows when she gets lost (in the kitchen that would be, about ten meters from my place on the couch). Any situation involving a no-eye-contact moment calls for a set of meows going louder and louder if I don’t respond to make my position in the apartment clearly known. But my favorite, by far, is the following; Freja is so small, she can’t jump into the second floor sleeping hole of her cat-tree. So when she gets exhausted, she crawls into the lower one, and keeps just enough energy for a long set of meows that (I figured after a while) meant “I am tired, pick me up and put me in the hole from which I can spot you on the couch!” Priceless…
She is 1.3 pounds (not) heavy. And she is super furry, so aerodynamically speaking, she is totally impaired. When she runs in the corridor, it seems like gravity doesn’t really do its job perfectly, so she more-so wobbles around as fast as she can. It is a miracle she hasn’t crashed into a wall yet. Then again, I doubt she could hurt herself, she’d just bounce out of her intended path…
It’s been a little over 2 days now, and I am in love…
Freja has only 2 gears; high-on-crack-hectically-hyper and sleeping. I am trying my best to catch a picture during the few seconds in between. A non-blurry picture but with open eyes… Very difficult… So for now, here is my best shot at our new little sweetheart

P.S. Yeah, I love Denmark AND cats !! Danish cats must be awsome….
Freja er så nuser!
