Depends on the situation. Almost always, I strive for understanding. But, recently… yeah. I just want to zap people into agreeing with me. I understand enough of what they think to also understand they don’t care about what I think. They don’t offer understanding, just “you will do it my way.” So, just change their minds.
I spend a lot of my time listening to others, and with that has come a lot of ability to understand, empathize, see things from their point of view. But there are times when I wish it were possible for me to change their thinking. That is rarely an quick fix though. Education is an ongoing process. The education many have been receiving completely unawares via the entertainment and commercial system, and in some cases through academia, has done so much damage. Educating people to have the right priorities and values takes time, needs to be ongoing, and has to be built on a firm foundation. A major part of the way a person thinks is who they spend their time with – be with friends and family in real life, or via social media etc. Being able to identify all of the people or messages that are influencing and shaping a person’s thinking is a challenge.

It would be nice to be able to do both, but that’s a pipe dream…

Naturally understand others point of view. I still wouldn’t have to agree with it.
