I do a lot of listening…I think listening is absolutely vital before venturing to give any sort of advice. But when it comes to giving advice, I try to be cautious. I don’t like to tell someone what to do. I point out the potential consequences of various options. I ask the person to think about how they would feel with their decision. I can sometimes be overly diplomatic.
I try very hard never to give unsolicited advice, and since almost no one ever asks me for advice, I rarely give it. I also hate receiving unsolicited advice, so I wouldn’t say I’m good at listening either, since I’m too busy being affronted by the rudeness of the one giving it. However, if I have asked someone for advice, as I do occasionally, then I’m very good at listening. So the answer to your question is “it depends.” 🙂

I think in order to do one well, you also have to do the other well too. They go hand in hand.
