I was invited (well, not personally, but still) to Fandango’s Friday Flashback!
Fandango scrolls back, every Friday, and gives a second chance to a post he had published on the same date, years before. I thought it was a great way to remember some of the stuff I did a while back, and I decided to participate…
So here it is!
Written on February 10th of 2022, here is a little piece of fiction.
I hope you’ll enjoy it (again), and I wish you’re safe and well, wherever you are…
What was it, she wondered, with her and water?
Whether it was a lake, a river, or better, the sea… She always felt emotional around her favorite element. Maybe it had to do with the fact that she had never lived far from it. She’d been born in a modest house with an ocean view, and the sound of the waves crashing on the pebble beach had been the first lullaby that had rocked her to sleep.
Maybe water had charmed her as an infant, like a mysterious godmother whispering secret promises to her ear before she could even understand the extent of the tie that was about to bound them, for the rest of her life.
As a child, she hadn’t really given it a thought. She just enjoyed being near, in or on water. As often and as long as she could.
It was as a teenager that she began to realize that she had a stronger link with the element, than any of her friends did. She connected with the strength of the fluid life-giving Goddess, and although others were merely amused by her tearing eyes, while sitting on a random beach, or shore of some sort, she understood that she was doomed, in a very lovely way, to always seek that enlighting bound.
Now an adult, with everything good and not so good it had brought to her life, she figured that water had just seen in her what she had ignored all of these years… That she was born with an ocean within her. A dark, bottomless sea of sadness.
And with every encounter, it pulled a couple of tears out of her that easied her burden a little by a little.
With a little luck, she could scoop every cup of distress out of her before the call to self-destruction would get the best of her.
So she stood on the shore, hoping.
And wishing for a happy ending.

Great story! Makes the reader ponder several endings, some of which might be tragic.
Excellent story! ❤
