There are so many modern conveniences I can do without – but a washing machine is not one of them. I don’t know how I would cope without a washing machine. I mean, I guess there are launderettes. But if the world were without washing machines. I don’t know… I guess it would be a bucket and water…perhaps a mangle. I am not having much fun thinking about this.

Me too. For many years I really didn’t need one, as everything was within easy walking distance, and it was so nice.
