There’s a first to everything…

And I can’t believe it took me this long to try this.

I watch my fair share of cooking tv shows. And one thing that always amazed me was to see people make fresh pasta from scratch for one hour challenges! I mean, it does look easy, but as much as I am confident in my cooking skills, making fresh pasta seemed totally out of my league!

And last Christmas, my parents offered me whole pasta kit. Semi professional rolling mill and all the gadgets that come with it.

So tonight, I rolled up my sleeves, and I decided to try to make spaghetti. First I had to mix and work the pasta dough. Surprisingly, it went pretty well, and after ten minutes of kneading, I left my dough to sit for half an hour…

I know I am biased, but I think it looks pretty dang good!

I then found out that the company had not considered the idea of including a guide with my 101 pasta thingies. I cheated, and went on Youtube to watch a short tutorial, and then put the pieces together, and started working.

And…

TADAAAAAAA!

First handful of homemade spaghetti!

I must say that, from there, my confidence got a big boost. I kept going and sooner than later….

TAAAAADAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!

Okie, there is still a chance that my first attempt won’t be super tasty. But hey! Practice makes perfect, and this is not the last time I make pasta. That’s for sure!

Here’s to trying new things! Yay me!

What’s one thing you thought you’d never manage to do… Until you tried it, and found out you were absolutely capable?

    1. I had the chance to cook them pasta, since the publishing of my post. And I must say I was very pleasantly surprised at the taste… I thought that after trying a couple of times, I could probably get it right, but I have been lucky on my first attempt. Fresh pasta is definately better, and I now understand why people told me that once you start to make your own, you don’t go back to grocery pasta 😛

    1. Thank you Miriam 🙂 Do you enjoy cooking, yourself? Because if you do, I really recommend exploring your Italian roots, and trying it too! It really is easier than I thought, and the taste….

      1. Ahhhh so that’s your secret for being all slim and slender 😉 Not having time to cook, and not eating processed food! I agree with you, and though we do eat out share of processed food, I do try to stay away from it as much as I can. Nothing like a meal cooked with love 🙂

  1. I first made pasta with my neighbor a million years ago. It was ravioli squares. No machines or anything except a jagged roller to cut. It was fun and adding different fillings was great. Delicious! She was from Holland and a wonderful hard working cook, baker of delicious cookies, plus a whole lot more. I miss her. I like the cooking shows, but that hour of course comes with all premeasured ingredients and hey just plop them in. Reminds me of a fun old movie is Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck, where she was a fake homemaker. Think you would enjoy it.

    1. That sounds like a fun time you had with that Holland lady 🙂 it is always better to cook with a friend! It is funny, because my next challenge will be ravioli!! I’ll make sure to post pictures when I try them out! I’ll also check out on the movie, thank you for the recommendation 🙂 xx
