Capharnaüm…

They almost all sat at the table…

Silence filled the room as they were getting accustomed to each other’s presences, after all that time wondering how it would be to finally meet.

A- Where is 1?

2- She’s sleeping, we’ve kept telling you that the three of us can’t be seen together, there’s always one of us sleeping somewhere, but you wouldn’t believe us. Where do you two think we get our good looks from? It takes a lot of beauty sleep to keep three equally pretty faces…

They weren’t actually that good looking triplets, but liked to fool themselves into thinking so. 2 and 3 were now staring at A and B, in disbelief…

3- You can’t be twins… I mean, I have trouble believing you are even brothers… Cousins, perhaps, but not twins, that’s for sure!

She stared at the two men sitting across the table. One was most certainly in his late fifties, with white hair and a few wrinkles, and the second one couldn’t possibly be older than thirty years old. He had thick brown hair going everywhere, and all she could see that made them look alike a tad, was their greyish blue eyes…

2- They’re funning with us, 3, I told you they were! 1 was right from the start.

There was a Guinness book of records’ awkwardness in the room. They all had wished for this encounter to happen, yet none of them knew how to react now that they were in the same room.

A- Should we go out? We could try a double date…

The two sisters gave each other an inquiring look, wondering what the other thought about it. It was direct and sudden, but they had been accustomed to that kind of spontaneous declarations from A. The foolishness of youth most certainly, 3 was thinking when…

3- Wait a minute! How old are you?

The two men were now in the strength of their early twenties… How was that possible? They were exchanging looks, obviously planin a wild evening out. 2 wasn’t merely as troubled by the change, but 3 started to get irritated.

B- So, what do you say, ladies… Would you care to join us? We can start with a walk and see where it leads us!

2 poked 3 under the table, obviously interested in accepting the invitation. 3 reminded her she was already engaged, therefore not really in for a walk in the darkness with two strange strangers…

A- Strangers? How can you call us strangers?

B- 3 is right, A. We are married, after all!

“WE? No… YOU are… I’m as free as the wind, free to do whatever I want!” said A, eyeing 2 who smiled back at him, with a discreet eyelash fluttering.

Silence again… The four of them were examining each other, wondering what to do next… B had aged again, as soon as he had mentioned his wife.

To be continued, or not!
