New Danish lesson next Friday! Yay!!
I really have to work on my homework, but something is drawing my attention away from the dictionary; Halfsan Rasmussen’s ABC poems.
For people familiar with Mr. Rasmussen, my interest might look a little bit weird. The ABC collection is a bunch of short poems written for young children. I am trying to learn one that I will recite during my upcoming lesson. So here are my two favorite, for now;
Else elsker pelse.
Else elsker pølse.
Pølse åd hun dagen lang.
Elses pels blev alt for trang.
Pelsen holdt, men Else sprak.
Else – pelse – pølsesnak.
My own translation, might not be perfect, I accept advices 🙂
Else loves fur.
Else loves sausage.
Sausage she ate all day long.
Else’s coat became too tight
The fur coat held, but Else blew up.
Else – fur – sausage talk
Ylle, Dylle, Dolle,
tre små lodne trolde
gik på jagt med vanter på
for at skyde hvad de så.
Ylle skød en kaffekande.
Dylle skød en stegepande.
Dolle skød en kasserolle.
Ylle, Dylle, Dolle.
Ylle, Dylle, Dolle,
Three small furry trolls
Went to hunt with mittens on
To shoot what they saw
Ylle shot a coffee pot.
Dylle shot a skillet.
Dolle shot a saucepan
Ylle, Dylle, Dolle.
I remember this from my childhood! 🙂
