Oh oh Oh oh Oh! The white stuff!

snowblog

When I got out of the apartment today, I had that old song playing in my head nonstop. I wasn’t too worried about the New Kids on the Block accusing me of plagiarism since I wasn’t even singing it out loud… Then again, it would be an honor to be sued by Jordan Knight, if it meant having to spend some time in the same room! And I don’t have much to be taken from, so even if they won, I wouldn’t be left with much loss… Anyway!

Yesterday, winter seem to have noticed it had forgotten about Quebec. I would extend to Canada, but my country is one wide piece of land, and I am pretty sure there are a few places that were spared by the snowstorm. I doubt winter has enough snow in storage to cover the whole territory at once…

Usually, winter comes to us before being official (on the 21st of December that is). A lot earlier than that. As a child, I remember some years, when my mother had to make Halloween costumes large enough so we could wear our snowsuits underneath on trick-or-treating night. It wasn’t “usual”, but it happened. This year, the temperature didn’t seem to want to go below zero, and no one complained. October went by… than November… December started, and it was barely chilly outside.

A little before Christmas, the winter-freaks (yes, some people crave snow, to go throw themselves down mountains, standing on two narrow pieces of wood… sometime only one, somewhat larger board… Crazy bunnies) and children in general were starting to be impatient. I have to admit that a Christmas without snow isn’t the same. So we hoped for (a little) snow before Christmas Eve, and it didn’t happen.

Yesterday, Mother Nature woke up, all of a sudden, realizing she had snoozed for a few months, and she probably thought she would make up for her lateness. Really, MN, next time, it is NOT necessary!

Overnight, we went from no snow at all and very comfortable, slightly over zero degree temperature (my brother popped the champagne on the porch with a light sweater on, on Xmas night!!) to about 40 cm of white stuff covering everything, strong winds and a cold wave forcing us to take scarves, mittens and tuques out of their closet.

It is funny, because I had a Danish frenger’s post waiting for me this morning when I woke, talking about Canada’s cold side… I guess the message was heard and my part of Canada dressed up to give credit to my friend blogger’s words! Tonight I have a meeting with my shovel, to take all the snow off the front and back stairs and balconies… I am used to it, but I would have done without the sore muscles for New Year’s Eve. At least I can think I will sympathise even more with my overseas Papa Bear trying to cure his aching back…

For now, still sitting at my desk at work, I look out the door and enjoy the view from my warm office. (ok, not over lovely, but we are in an industrial neighborhood 🙂

P.S. A little word for my friends bloggers visiting this post… As I said previously in other posts, I am sometimes lost with technology, and I try to make up for it, but sometimes, I just don’t find my way through Internet’s mysteries…

I saw several of you posting a WordPress review of 2015. I know mine would be rather succinct (to say the least) but I was curious about it. I searched and searched and searched, but I can’t find the link to have mine done… Could you hygge people help me?

P.S. Again… When I wrote about my brother popping the champagne on Xmas Eve, I was looking for the proper expression en English and I couldn’t find it… He actually opened the blottle sliding a long knife along the bottle’s neck… In French, we say “sabrer le Champagne”. Do you have an equivalent?

  1. This came by mail to me: Your Annual Report from WordPress.com arriving at 5:41 am this morning. I did not solicit this report, and I was surprised to get one at all.

  2. I admit to having to look: “frenger post” up on the Internet. Either, It is a young person thing, or, I am more out of touch than I ever knew! I am glad for not having to deal with that white stuff. Regular Danes would appreciate seeing it on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but then it’ll need to magically disappear from sight. No melting, no ice, no sjapp (vådt, tungt føre med tøsne), just a white-less Winter once again. It does fit though with my premise: Canada is cold…..brrrrrrrrrr!

    1. Sorry, my mistake… frenger is just a term I use so commonly that I forget it is an invention of my beloved music band, Mew. It is a mix of Friend and Stranger…. it is the particular relationship between two people who definately aren’t strangers anymore, but not friends yet, by the notion of friendship most people have!

  3. I guess I should listen more to Danish Bands! I use most of my time in 2015, listening to music from La Grande Sophie. Nice music, but I can’t exactly understand, what she is singing. Don’t take offense with my French Music, as last year was spent listening to Die Toten Hosen, and the year before that, to Neil Young. Just fickle, I guess.
