Although they should go together, respect is the basis of love. You can’t love someone you have no respect for. The exception is towards the end of a relationship.
It’s situational. Some think you can’t love people you no longer respect. I’m going disagree with that one.
I’m at the grocery store, the cashier is likely interested in my respectful posture, not my love. Unless we’re acquainted. With those you love, respect usually comes along for the ride, but when it’s lost, love doesn’t always disappear. With addiction, for instance, respect can be challenged because of behaviours. Love remains.

Respected. Usually love and respect go hand in hand, or at least the should, but in order to love someone, you need to respect them.

Well, sadly it depends on the circumstances we are in – sometimes it’s one and sometimes it’s the other. It would be great if we could have both!!
