I think I have walked past even impressive monuments and not paid attention to them because generally people were indifferent to them – they had little significance to people. But when I was in Accra, Ghana, I saw the regard people had for monuments that connected to the country’s independence – they had a great significance to people.
That’s the interesting thing about monuments – whatever they look like – their import is dependent on how people feel about what they stand for.
On a personal level – I always find it touching when I see monuments in connection with Queen Victoria’s husband Albert. I love a love story.

I don’t think they Sistine Chapel is a Monument and as much as I loved it, neither is Michelangelos ‘David’ so I am going with ‘The Roman Ruins’.
