Presuming we could communicate at all (they had a Universal translator or something, with American English as one of the options), I’d say “Romantic love is when you admire another person (human) so much that you’d do anything for them. You’d give your life for them. Their happiness and welfare become your primary goal. But romantic love is scarcely the only kind of love there is. Perhaps simply love is high regard for someone else or enjoyment of something a great deal.” Maybe that would be the simplest way to describe it.

Nearly impossible to put in words. I think maybe I’d just hand them a puppy and ask how they feel inside while holding it. That’s somewhat close. 😃
