I like hockey. It has been a journey though… About 6 years ago, I didn’t understand the sport and I couldn’t have cared less. Every time I had to endure a game on tv, because of friends insisting on watching it, I would recommend to give each player a puck, so they’d stop fighting all the time.
Now, I have my own Eller jersey, and I wear my #81 proudly. I watch games every week and I am pretty up to date with the exchange rumors…
I don’t follow junior hockey though. I am just not there yet. I need to know my players before enjoying the show, and I don’t have enough time for 2 whole teams. Quality before quantity!
But I made a little exception last year to watch Denmark play against Switzerland. Denmark had never won, and I considered they deserved my cheering. I am an incredibly positive supporter and with the odds against me, I kept my good spirits until the end.
And they won! They had to go into prolongation, but the little Vikings fought until the last shot and defeated Switzerland. Their reaction was priceless. For someone tuning in at that moment, it would have looked as if they had won the championship. I loved watching them jumping around and hugging each other.
Yesterday, Denmark played against Switzerland again. And won. In regular game time. Their first official win. I was so proud to learn that. Sad I had missed the game, but very happy for the team.
Today, Denmark’s junior team is playing against Canada… I am an optimist kitten, not a dumb head, I know it will be something close to carnage. But I still hope my little scandinavians score a few goals!
I know… Not super exciting. But hey, it is hockey and little Danes together đ
Little update: Canada won… 6-1. No surprise, but I hope my little Danskers did their best before bowing down!
