Imagination! In my room for hours and hours with no “cell phone” of course, computers were not available to the commonality and there was one black and white television in the living room, completely under the domain of my father. So, my world was filled with imaginary stories with imaginary scenarios and people. Pencil and paper became available and the imaginary stories turned into prose, poetry and pages filled with fictional and creative non-fiction stories. I still don’t watch television to this day!
My Imagination! I would cut pictures out of Magazines and Catalogues to make a Paper Doll Family! Or play with things that weren’t there. I need to do a Post about that.
I guess different families are different. When I see my nephews and nieces, they still have paper books and play make-believe imagination based games. They draw and write on paper. They are very active outdoors. It is true that technology has changed, and of course things like records, cassette tapes, video tapes, might never be part of their life, but they can still enjoy music and dancing. The one thing I notice is absent is paper road maps. I used to be fascinated by looking at the road atlas Dad had, and the local A-Z. I could sit there and study them contentedly for ages, learning the names towns and cities near and far. But with satnavs and GPS, it seems a lot more rare to see a printed road map being used now.
