I used to be very trusting, and even gullible. But the older I get, the more jaded I become. I have learned through the years to NOT be so trusting because I have been burned far to many times. Now, i am a lot more cautious and guarded.
I understand you… I think that as the years go by, we (try to) learn to find the thin line between being too cautious and giving out our trust blindly 😉
Trust is sometimes relative I guess.
I believe that all people, including myself, have the potential for wonderful qualities, and under pressure or inclined by harmful influence we also have the potential to give in to weakness.
I board a bus or a train with people – and while in public I feel “safe” with them. But I still am careful about zipping away my bus pass and house keys so they are hard for anyone to pick-pocket.
Hmm….I try not to make it too easy for someone inclined to do something wrong to see an opportunity in me. But I am not generally suspicious of people either. I think so much of what people do that may be “wrong” is down to weakness not wickedness.
Trust is a complicated issue… I’ll give you that. Personally, I do my best not to judge people too quickly, to allow myself to experience cool unexpected encounters… But like you, I try to make sure that people won’t be able to take advantage of me in the end. 😉

I was the same way in my youth. I was such a starry-eyed optimist! Life has cured me of that.

No. But I’m not paranoid either. I just withhold an opinion until I have some evidence either way…

That’s fair enough, Paula 😉

Being inclined to trust, opens the door to cool unexpected experiences… But it is important not to trust blindly 😛

I give everyone a fair shake. No matter what. Until they give me a reason not to. Once that happens, my stance on that person changes permanently.

That’s exactly how I imagined you to be, Sonofa-Cha-Cha 😉 And rest assured that I’ll never give you a reason to put me on your blacklist 😛 *Hugs*

No it takes time for me to trust someone.

Is that how you’ve always been, or did you become more cautious as the years went by? 😉

I think I have always been like that. Must have been how my parents were and how I was brought up.

I do, and regret it later.

It’s my own fault for trusting everyone.
