I would say the skills that paid my bills for 53 yrs. My manufacturing, supervisory, and programming skills may be outdated now as technology has past them by.
Customer Service. People do not realize in today’s instant gratification how important that ability really is. To serve with confidence and with the end result being not only that your customer leaves happy but that you yourself have done a job that you are proud of. Customer service is becoming a lost art in today’s day of electronic conversations. Have a great Sunday 🙂
Amen, Jay-lyn! I find it disappointing to see that many think that customer service is something easy to provide. It is not, and I have always used it in every interview I had for a job. My ”pitch” is that I am offering excellent customer service. They can teach me whatever the company is selling or whatever services they provide. Learning how to treat customers is way harder. (I got every job I got interviewed for, btw).
My two main advices to anyone wanting to work in a customer service environment would be: 1) Always smile (even on the phone – it DOES make a difference) and 2) Your last client of the day might be your hundredth, but that person might be using the company’s services for the very first time. When you work in customer service, you are the face and the voice of the company you work for.
Sorry, I got carried away… 😉 I had a lovely Sunday (although we had to get out of the apartment LOL) I hope you did so too (I did see that you started the sun tanning… Don’t forget to put on sunscreen, Gorgeous :P)
Oh please woman you and I should open a Customer Service Training business. If more company’s put customer service ahead of profit they would be surprised to learn their profits will most likely go higher
My God, we’d make a fortune… Good customer service is a lost art. When you can say goodbye to a happy customer, even if they didn’t get exactly what they wanted to begin with, you know you have ”it” 😉
Exactly. We could work from anywhere. I mentioned to my mom once when I visited her in Mexico that I could probably make a killing teaching customer service there. Not in the high tourist areas but in the city centers. Here too. Denmark. Australia. Ireland. Wales. Scotland. England.
Oh, my… You got me day (well actually evening) dreaming there 😉 I think we might have to discuss this in private LOL, with your face to face experience, and my over the phone knowledge, we’d make a kill!
Oh, come on, Cheryl 😉 You definately have good knowledge to pass on to others… A great lady like you? I’d sign on even if I didn’t know the exact cursus 😛
I disagree, Yinglan… You are a very special person, and I am really glad that we got to chat with you twice ”live” on Skypy Fridays. (By the way, I’m really looking forward to your next visit, if you enjoyed your experience with us) You definately have knowledge you could pass on to an apprentice, maybe you just don’t know what yet 😉
Oh my, Anne… That would be a nice thing to start with. Basic politeness is something everybody should know about. But for some reason, it doesn’t seem to be very trendy nowadays.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha… Let me ask you, is that a natural skill, or just one you aquired from working non-stop the past year? 😉 If it is the first, let me know… I could help you setting up your cursus 😛
I would LOVE to be a Jeanne in the kitchen apprentice. Now, why is my belly suddenly growling? 😛 I’d also love to take a wildlife photography course with you 🙂
I’d teach them how to be the master/mistress of sarcastic wit. So far though, no applicants. 😉

I think it might have to do with Trina, giving the same cursus… 😉 Maybe you two could team up and give super effective classes? LOL

Thank you. I’m not sure my kids would agree. I still get “Daaaad, are you kidding me?” They don’t take me to serious. 😜

I think that’s a typical ”kid” thing… I, myself, sometimes mocked my father knowing he is the best. 😉

You have some competition up there in the comments… Maybe Melanie and you could team up, and give a full British/American sarcasm course? 😉

They are two very different types, my sarcasm doesn’t work as well in the States

I’d like to help you with that, Sadje… But I really think that you are better placed than I am to answer this question 😉

Thanks, I’m glad you think so. I hope I can visit again soon. I’m currently on a road trip and got a work thing this Friday. So hopefully soon.

I would teach them (in detail) everything I know. That would keep them busy until about lunchtime.

Well… I highly doubt that, and I won’t reveal my sources. But I’ll play dumb, just to keep your cover intact 😉

I might start by teaching them to say please and thank you. Being polite has never been a bad thing in my life.
