O like Original…

I hesitated between original and odd, for this one.

I guess that this picture could be used for both. This picture probably wouldn’t catch one’s eye, if it was displayed in the middle of many others. It not a gorgeous portrait, a breath taking scenery or a pretty flower. Still, I like it.

Some people might think that interesting pictures require getting out and hunting special sights. I disagree… The ordinary can be worth a shot, if you just change the way you look at it. It is not easy at first, but if you try hard enough, you can always find an original twist to anything seemingly uninteresting.

You just have to look out for the little things.

Back when I worked at the office (whoa, that seems like an eternity ago), I spent long hours staring at the same desk. Day after day after day. Same screens, same keyboards, same piles of paper and pens laying around… Nothing special. Nothing exciting.

But one day, I noticed that at a certain hour, as the sun was setting, the rays of light had just the right angle to create a little rainbow on my desk, as they hit the glass window panes.

I moved my stappler, to make it look as if it was blocking the tiny rainbow, and I played with the angles.

Not a chef d’oeuvre, per say. But still… I thought it was worth the keep.

Do you look for the odd and the original in your everyday life, too?

  1. I think the composition is excellent. I adore rainbows–I get as excited as a little kid when I see one. We were driving the other day, and suddenly one appeared stretching across the sky, so I made Ken pull over so we could take pictures of it:-)

    1. Thank you, Suzanne 🙂 I love rainbows too… (btw, we still light ours every night, and these days, I have a special thought for our Ontarian neighbours and friends when we do). For some reason, I always feel like it is a sign something great is about to happen. Probably because of the contrast of the bright multi-colored arch after a greyish rainy day…
