Some of you might remember the good ol’ days, when the Bobs and I lived in peace…
For God’s sake, Bob… I generously fed you!!
Well these days are over.
Today, after the end of my shift, I was looking forward to visiting our balcony garden. Our tomato plants had a couple of tomatoes ready to harvest, and I couldn’t wait to finally taste them.
And here’s what awaited me:
Someone had had a snack. And quite a snack, considering the size of the thief. Now you might think that I am quick to judge, but I went through a quick elimination of possible suspects, and I have no doubt… The Bob clan did this!
For one thing, it wasn’t me. And I trust that Chéri wouldn’t let me accuse the Bobs if he had eaten my tomatoes. Freja couldn’t care less about the bright orange balls hanging in that tree-like plant. Last but not least, the birdies could have done the crime, but I have a feeling they would have been messier… No, only the Bobs could have run away with the tomatoes to eat them elsewhere.
Oh, and there’s this:
Piece of evidence number 1
Piece of evidence number 2
My green onions have also been savagely attacked. And this was totally free, since none of the onions got bitten in the process. Nope, unlike the tomatoes that got abducted, my green onions were just digged out of the soil, and left to die. My understanding is that the onions were potential witnesses that had to be eliminated.
I am disappointed. I liked the Bobs. I liked them a lot.
But if they want the tomatoes I patiently grew, we have a problem.
War is on.
The Internets told me that the Bobs’ noses were really sensitive to Cayenne pepper, and that sprinkling some on the leaves and tomatoes would keep the tiny thieves away.
I sprinkled a lot of it on and around my two plants.
If you have easy effective tricks to keep squirrels away from your tomatoes, please (please please please) let me know in the comments.
Dang Bobs!!

Freja is taking the day shift, but I have a feeling that the critters are aware that the balcony is totally cat-free in the early morning.
But you know what? You just make me think about a plush toy of Grumpy Cat… I will try to put it next to my tomato plants tonight. Who knows….

LOL excellent idea, but I have a feeling neighbours would call the police. Also, I would have to spend the night out on the balcony. Hmmm… The tomatoes do look good though.
I’ll give it a thought 😉

Won’t hurt him, just spook him away. Those tomatoes look worth pulling an all nighter or two. I’ve gotta raccoon currently that is consistently crossing the line of my patience. I’m gonna catch him in a trap and move him far, far away. I’ll post a pic of the little bastard when I get him. 😃

Oooh I’d love to see the little rascal. Racoons are so cute, but they have quite a temper!! I had a fight between two of them on my back balcony in the middle of the night. It was epic!! When I stepped out of the apartment to shush them away, they both looked at me as if they were saying ” This is between us two, mind your own business!” LOL

Troublemakers…for me! Keep tipping my garbage cans over and leaving me clean up their tomfuckery. I’m done. 😡

I heard that they were the smartest when it comes to opening garbage bins. I get how frustrating it must be to clean after them after their overnight trash Party… I hope you catch them soon!!

Oh, I’ll get him. They can’t resist a can of cat food. 😃

That’s a cheap catch for sure 😉

two bungee cords across the top of the cans…works even if the lil critters knock them over.

Or you can also buy a metallic garbage bin and weld the cover up 😉 A little more work, but I heard it is very efficient… Mouahahahaha

Yeah, been there, done that. I try to be tolerant, but I done with this one. Trap and move is what’s gonna happen. Been there, done that too…100 times.

I agree… especially since I would I gladly shared, had I known that they enjoyed tomatoes so much 😉

Yup! I’d say it was very shortsighted on bobs part. His loss I guess!

I’ll leave a note by the tomato plants saying ”I hope you’ll remember the sweet taste of these next winter, when I fail to leave peanuts on the backyard table”… That might get to him 😛

Not to rain on your parade but….
Depending on the squirrel, they either hate it or love it. So you might find your balcony full of spice loving squirrels

Oh my….. There goes what little hope I still had. With my luck the neighbourhood squirrels will all love the stuff 😐
