Interesting question! No, I’m not lucky. By my own standards that is. I have a sibling who is lucky, so I could compare, see? He always won things at raffles, found money lying on the sidewalk, lived a really charmed life it seems. I spoke with him recently and he complained about his hard life…he’s had to work all his life and he’ll be working long after retirement too, I bet. I say he’s a work-a-holic and needs a 12 step to deal with his addiction. He doesn’t see it that way. And he never seems to see the luck either. It’s all perception maybe. I’m not lucky, but I’m blessed. And that’s good enough. 🙂
I do think there is a matter of perception involved. Often, we are blinder when it comes to realizing our own luck, while it is so easy to see luck in other people’s lives… But quite honestly, I’d much rather feel blessed than lucky 🙂 Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Melanie xx
As far as games of chance? Not really. In life? Absolutely. Why? Look no further than my wife and boys. Still can’t figure why I deserved that kind of blessing, but somehow it’s happened.
I’m pretty sure everybody else would agree that with a big heart like yours, Life had no choice but to grant you a great family (and I am guessing, really good friends too!) 🙂
Compared to the tail end of 2015 through 2017, I felt lucky in the sense that even though I was homeless, I still had a roof over my head, that was provided by the state.
Afterwards, When I moved in with my friend… I consider myself still fortunate to have a roof over my head, food to eat, and my precious baby boy, Peanut by my side.
Even though my roommate is as messy as they come, I pretty muh keep to mself in my own clean room. This is for my own sanity.
Hehehehe, can’t teach an ”old” monkey new tricks, uh? It’s probably better to leave it at that 🙂 At least you are safe, and comfortable, which is already a lot! We tend to forget to appreciate things like having a home and eating everyday… And I am glad that your life is that much better, compared to what it once was! *Big hugs*
It’s a lot easier to see luck in other people’s lives… And it doesn’t surprise me that you think more of others than yourself, you seem like a very altruistic person, Saumya 🙂
Hahahah… I don’t know. I think I have started to become a lil selfish and focus on what I love/want. And have become outspoken about my critical views of others 😜
Do I consider myself richer than I will ever need to be? Yes. Although everything I own could fit into my large suitcase…and I don’t own property or wheels, I am very wealthy in love, family and friends. Very rich in amazing experiences and life stories.
My cup is always over-flowing. I have had a few challenges along the way, but they taught me priceless life lessons – and just ended up making me even wealthier.
I think people quickly connect ”being lucky” and having a lot of ”things” and money. I think your richness is much more related to your family, friends and experiences 🙂 And in that way, you are very wealthy 🙂
Yes, absolutely. I’m a white person living in the U.S., which makes me luckier than ~97% people on earth. The fact that I didn’t meet my soul mate, wah wah, or strike it rich is relatively meaningless compared with the fact that neither I nor my children have ever been hungry, homeless, or unprotected by a powerful military.
I think it is great that you appreciate your luck despite the things still lack in your life… Here’s to finding your soulmate, and may he be really really wealthy 😛 Cheers, Paula 🙂
I resonate with what Paula said, I’m becoming conscious of how white privilege creates “luck.” As for our personal control, I feel that choosing to think positively can bring good things into our lives.
I think I am lucky. I was born in Canada and not in a country where there are profuse human rights abuses, or ongoing war or economic deprivation. I have had some major bumps in my life health wise but I have recovered well. So…I am lucky.
Same here… I had my fair share of bumps in the road, but just being born in Canada was a blessing (not as much as if I had been born in Denmark, but still LOL). 🙂

I would say I am fairly lucky, particularly in the blessing of my family. Also, being lucky doesn’t always mean it’s good luck 😉
