  1. Yes – seven of us did; the spinster aunt we thought had no money left money to the nephews and nieces. It wasn’t a lot, not one of those surprises, but touching and I used it to buy a little summer house for the garden, so I had something permanent to remember her. Now known as the Aunty Evelyn Memorial Summerhouse! This was my only ever inheritance and I’m not expecting any others…

    1. Aww that’s such a great idea! I just got a small amount from a family member that died quite a while ago… A bank account that hadn’t been closed back then has been found recently. It felt like a sign he was still looking over for us…. I might do like you and buy myself something to remember him from 🙂

  2. Earlier this year I got notified that a million year old life insurance policy someone had gifted me when I graduated high school needed to be updated with my current address. I didn’t know I had this policy! Since whoever bought it had quit making payments on it (probably because they died), it wasn’t worth much. Regardless, I cashed it in for a sweet surprise of $500. 🙂

  3. Yep. I had a great aunt who passed, and she was a long-time widow and had no children. So, when she died, all of her nieces and nephews were listed in her will, about 8 of us. It didn’t surprise us that we were all in the will, but the amount was shocking. I paid for my first go ‘round in college, used some to move to and get settled in New Orleans, and saved/invested the remainder. Nearly 30 years later, that inheritance continues to earn dividends.

  4. Yeah, I got a little (it wasn’t ‘little’ exactly, but not huge either) from my father-in-law. Hubby passed away before his dad, and the money hubby would have gotten came to me. Of course I split most of it among hubby’s kids, but I made a large down payment on my current house with the rest. 🙂

  5. Yes. A friend of my Aunts who was a single woman with no children left me something. I was delighted and used the money to do a loft conversion of my house making a bathroom and bedroom in what had been the attic.
