That is scary!! I was caught in a small flood during a storm. I had to wade through only 2 1/2 feet deep of water to get to dry ground. But it scared the hell out of me. Water rushing in car, almost falling in water. It’s crazy the power of water.
Oh my yes… I would be really scared by a tsunami wave too. I think you’d have to file it under both ”flood” and ”earthquake”, which is not a cool mix, if you ask me!! 🙂
Living where I do, along a major faultline, the short answer is obviously EARTHQUAKE. Utahans have been schooled in proper earthquake ‘etiquette’ since before I was born. I’m a bit scared to say that those things are getting closer and bigger and last longer, which means (to me) that ‘the BIG one” of which we’ve been warned is well on its way. But I’d say the type of natural disaster that would scare me the worst is anything to do with a lot of water (like a tsunami). I can’t swim. I’m going to now go join V Pub in the basement. Wait! I don’t have one of those! :O !!
Mouahahaha, well, I don’t want to look like an eternal optimistic, but I think it actually is a good thing that you are not hiding in a basement, if you are afraid of water… In case of a sudden flood, I would recommend climbing as high as you can 😉 LOL
Fire is my greatest fear… It is the only thing I am afraid of, when I leave home. I always worry about my apartment burning down while I am not there! And when I am home, I am on the lookout for signs of fire as soon as I smell smoke!!
Have you ever felt an earthquake, Cheryl? I experienced a small one when I was about 10 years old, and it was very scary. Nothing near ”earth opening” but still. I had the shakes for a couple of hours after the ground stopped moving.
Me neither… In 1988, the earthquake hit level 5,9, and it was over 300 km from where we lived, and it still scared me. I’ll pass on California-kind earth shaking 😉
I’ve had dealt with plenty of flooding in the past, been in the midst of a water spout while on a boat… Cleared out of there real quick to say the least. I’d say, fire would be my worse fear. We don’t get to many earthquakes on the East coast, so I’m not to worried about that, but fires scare the crap out of me.
Same here… Once, a major fire happened in our neighbourhood. I can see the building where I live from my office, and I could see the tower of smoke just above it. I went crazy, and ran all the way home! The fire was actually one street farther, but I experienced what it is like to see your house burning down, and I can tell you, it was the worst feeling ever!! I panicked!!
We don’t have much natural disasters here, neither, mainly just floods in the springtime. We are starting to get a couple of tornadoes, and of course, in the winter, major snowstorms…. I am gratefull for our somewhat tranquile weather 😛
It’s all subjective… We get much more snow, but we are equiped to deal with it. At least, snow doesn’t break anything (as long as you make sure that it doesn’t pile up on your roof LOL)
After watching a movie about the big tsunami in Phuket, I would be freaked if I saw the water retrieving from the coast. I can’t even imagine how scary that would be. Let’s cross our fingers, so you never have to experience it! 🙂

What’s more likely than a huge earthquake is a regular old fire, which is freaky fast and can happen anytime, anywhere. But even more likely is a nasty traffic accident or falling in the bathroom and smashing my head into the tub, which has actually already happened!
OMG, Paula, even if the situation isn’t funny at all, you really made me laugh with the bathroom thing! When I lived alone, I had an uncontrolable fear of falling in the bathtub and dying slowly, naked under the pouring water… I hadn’t thought about that in quite a while… Thank you for participating 🙂

Living in Ireland, we don’t get a lot of natural disasters, or bad weather in general. We do get severe ice and snow storms sometimes, and thunder storms occasionally. But if I lived in the US or Canada, I think I’d fear tornados or hurricanes most of all!
Where we live, tornados are the biggest threat. They’re so random, and devastating, that they are scary, indeed. Flooding, from what I’ve witnessed, is the hardest to recover from, if ever. Water is a powerful thing.
Yes it is… we have a saying in French: ”Il faut se méfier de l’eau qui dort” basically referring to people who seem harmless, and how you shouldn’t underestimate them because they don’t look dangerous!

Fire. I have lived through hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, earthquakes, ice storms, extreme heat waves…..I am terrified of fires.

They are a very violent natural manifestation, indeed. I feel lucky we don’t really get those here, in Montréal. I hope it stays that way 😉
