Halloween. Hands down. It WAS Christmas until my parents both passed away, and my remaining family made it clear that they had no time for ‘outsiders.’ I’m an outsider. Yeah. So bring on the skeletons, pumpkins, purple glowing “BOO” signs and all the rest. I’m so there! 🙂
I like Christmas, but it comes with too much preparation, for my liking. Halloween, on the other hand is more easy going, and I enjoy it A LOT! I dressed up for Halloween untill I was in my mid (if not late) twenties… I wouldn’t go trick-or-treating, but I enjoyed walking in the neighbourhood, and seeing all the kids having fun!
I’d love to enjoy a Thanksgiving US style! Here in Canada, especially the French part of it, Thanksgiving isn’t really celebrated. We sometimes have a family dinner, but we don’t have any traditions related to the holiday.
I don’t have kids, but I remember how magic a white Christmas was back when I was one. I can totally understand how special that holiday is for your family 🙂
Nothing like seeing their faces on Christmas morning. They’re getting older now, and no longer believe in the magic, but great memories from when they were little. Still my favorite holiday though. 😃
I agree… Back when my parents took care of everything, I really prefered Christmas. But as an adult, it is much easier to enjoy a fun Halloween 😉 No planning weeks in advance, or worrying about the feast for 20 guests… LOL
Oh this is interesting 🙂 When I lived in Africa, most of the people in my city were Muslims, and after a strict Ramadan month, I remember how festive the end of it was… Thank you for participating!
Normally I would say snowy holidays – I loved North of Sweden and Romania in winter – so much fun. But my favourite holiday now is the type where Goldfinch is waiting for me at arrivals when I reach the airport.
Oh…I just saw the comments above – to me holiday means packing your suitcase and setting off for adventure. I don’t do commercial stuff like buying rubbishy presents for people just because…
I like spontaneous, surprise and meaningful gifts. Most of my family are in jobs when we have to work bank holidays…but of course we love some time off work and being together. Once a year my brother-on-law’s family (there are over a hundred of them) have a huge family day – it is fantastic. BBQ/big buffet, games, races, all sorts, so much laughter…love it. I come from an enormous family – it would be ridiculous to try to buy gifts for everyone for anything. So we don’t do commercial stuff. We just make sure we look after everyone – there is always a lot of love, a lot of listening, a lot of laughter, a lot of food…and the commercial world have nothing to do with it.
I totally get it 🙂 There is nothing like seeing the face of a loved one we missed so much at the airport… The smile on their face is the warmest welcome you can experience 🙂 xx
My first thought was beach in Spain too, Caramel. A holiday is travel.
But, in terms of public holidays, Christmas would have to be my favourite – I love the decorations, lights, carols etc. In NZ, it normally involves barbecues and camping too.
The one xmas we spent in Europe was amazing. For one, it is cold in December so all the traditions make sense. For two, Christmas markets. And third – mulled wine.
My family once flew to the Canary Islands for Christmas, and I must say, it is quite an experience to enjoy this time of year in another country! I loved discovering the local traditions… I’d really like to try that in Scandinavia someday. Christmas is a big thing there, especially in Denmark! 😉
One of my sons and I were born on the same day (a few years apart, obviously) and we try to make that into a holiday. As the birthday is shared we only add 6 months to our age each year – so it is an event brimming with youth and vitality.
That’s quite a birthday gift!! I can understand how extra special this day is, in both of your lives… I think the idea of sharing the past year is quite lovely 😉 I’m sure it will keep you two young at heart for ever! 🙂
As mentionned above, Thanksgiving isn’t widely celebrated here, but it looks like a lot of fun in the US, and in the English part of Canada… I’d love to experience it, someday 🙂
Commercial side. Why the hell should it be one day I celebrate my mum or my dad, or my partner.
Now you have grandparents day, sister day, brother day, cousin day.
Just no, if it was up to me, I would ban the whole lot apart from celebrate Trina day and my birthday. Otherwise you just celebrate when you like.
Feel free to start me on certain industries, mainly all female, that would fall overnight if women stopped buying their products, such as make up, aging products etc etc etc
