Ok. Can someone tell me what happened to holiday movies this year?
Usually, during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, we get flooded with all the Christmassy classics. Cartoons (Astérix, Tintin, Lucky Luke & co), stories involving animals (Hatchi, Marley & me….) and more conventional holiday movies (from “Miracle on 34th Street” to “The Holiday”… And everything in between).
I am not a big Christmas movie fan (except for The Holiday… I don’t get tired of The Holiday) but I must admit that the usual programming did help to put me in a Christmassy mood.
It seems like all of that has been thrown out the window this year. And I have the feeling that the Grinch took control over the holiday-movie scheduling.
I noticed that three days ago. I was minding my own business, working on my blogging, when I realized I was “watching” The Impossible. Now, I know it is an inspiring story, but let’s face it, if you have a tiny bit of a sensible heart, this movie requires a box of kleenex.
I kept doing my things, and I forgot about it.
The next day, around same time in the afternoon, I noticed they were playing Alive. Again, I won’t deny the inspiring side of the story… But COME ON! Really? People forced to eat other dead (thank God!) people to survive after a plane crash? How dang Christmassy is that??
But yesterday…
Yesterday… To be honest, I was actually waiting for the afternoon-movie, yesterday. I couldn’t believe the Grinch would schedule another equally dramatic (read “depressing”) film, in the middle of the afternoon. And I must say, I wasn’t disappointed. At all. The Grinch outdid himself, and treated us with 2012. What-the-dang?
At least, the first two movies were based on true stories. There was an inspiring side to them. But 2012??
2012, along with The Core, is the kind of movie that stands proudly at the top of my “Come on!” list, and I am still impressed that I didn’t end up in a hospital with all the eye rolling they provoked from me. I feel like someone is mocking my intelligence when I watch these “what if”/catastrophy films. I know mega earthquakes will happen someday, and will cause giant tsunamis. But there is NO way you’ll make me believe that we might become experts at escaping the earth splitting in two with a limousine, or that we’ll discover an innate knowledge of plane flying. Even if you try using John Cusack to make it seem possible. (clever, but NO!)
Now I am wondering what will be playing this afternoon. I know I could have checked the schedule ahead of time, but I kind of enjoy the feeling of anticipation.
I’m putting 10$ on The Exorcist.
The Holiday and Love Actually and my all time Christmas favorites. Also Prancer which they never show anymore. 🙂💕

I have seen Love Actually, but I must admit I don’t remember it well, I should give it a second try 😉 I’ve never seen Prancer, but if I get a chance to see it, I’ll check it out!

I’m fairly sure that ‘Love Actually’ gets a run every year over here and I take some pride in claiming that I have not yet seen it. If I never hear Hugh Grant say the word ‘actually’ again it will be way too soon.

I love Hugh Grant comedies, but I know I’m in the minority.

Minority? I wouldn’t say that… Mr Grant would make a lot less money if you were an exception 😉

Good heavens, and I thought the British Christmas TV was bad. But at least they give us Minions 😜. Please keep us updated on the Grinches further tv escapades 😁😎

LOL The Grinch didn’t dare playing The Exorcist just yet… But I think it is just to make me lose the 10$! Ughhh!! 😛

I had to watch the Hallmark (most predictable movies ever) to find something. However I did watch Galaxy Quest tonight. 😳😂❤️🤗🎄

🙂 That sounds pretty Christmassy too! 😛 Not quite as much as “Alive” though… Nothing spells good times like a bunch of men surrendering to canibalism LOL

best thing about 2012 and having a child born around that time, is telling them its a documentary 😉

LOOOOOOL I have books about the 2012 theory… I remember reading them before 2012, and though not believing in this apocalypse, I couldn’t help but wonder “what if?” These books are not nearly as entertaining now 😛
